I'll be getting Battlefield 3 on PS3. Was playing the beta earlier, it's wicked fun.

In the morning I'm picking up Rage and Dark Souls.

So excited.

How's Dark Souls? Demon's Souls looked awesome but sadly I don't have a PS3 :(

May have to get Dark Souls if I get good words on it.

Well, that's what they claim anyway. So far the beta has been kind of a bust since I've only been able to play Metro, which feels terribly COD-like in both scale and game flow. Still fun, just not really... Battlefield

Also, it's worrisome to me that the game is less than a month from release, and is probably going gold this week or next, and yet the beta is so riddled with bugs and issues.

Yea, Operation Metro is gonna be that way no matter what. The actual conquest maps, however, are not. I only got to play a few minutes on Caspian Border when Zh1nt0 was giving out the password for limited testing, but the scale is quite obvious. Also, the commentaries on the gameplay and Battlefield feel and flow by those who spent a good bit of time on Caspian Border are all positive and a dramatic contrast from that of Operation Metro.

As far as the beta bugs are concerned, the build is definitely an older build and the devs have already integrated a majority of the fixes into the final release, as they knew about many of them prior to the beta opening up. They had to release an older build because of the amount of time it takes for EA to get it ready for publishing on the platforms and get the servers up and going. I think I heard a quote of several weeks, so if that's true, DICE would still have been working through the game in the mean-time.

Hahaha. So true.
I'm making myself use the scroll wheel for selecting stuff, though, so it's becoming less of a problem for me. It's faster than you would think. When you get the click count and motion burned into your muscle memory, I think it's easier, especially since you don't have to take your fingers off the WASD.

Yeah it seems to be the consensus that Metro is a pretty cruddy BF map in general, so I look forward to full-scale battles once the game releases.

That's good to hear, though it makes me wonder; what's the point of a beta if it's an older build that you've already fixed the bugs for? I guess a server stress test, but I feel as if the beta is more of a demo.

Doesn't really count for me, but I've given my 11 year old sister my old 360 and a few of the games that don't involve alien sex or decapitations. You wouldn't believe how happy I was when I heard 'Rhys? Why does this wall say The Cake Is A Lie?'

keen to get Spy vs Spy on the PS2 for some reason or the other

It's hard, but fair. I'm absolutely loving it.
The game is made to be punishing, but when you FINALLY kill that boss, or FINALLY get to the next bonfire (the new checkpoint system in the game) you feel like you've done something worthwhile.

If you're looking for a challenge, I recommend it.

I think I'll end up getting Dark Souls eventually, but I want to get further in Demon's Souls first. Starcraft 2 keeps pulling me away.

Good news:
Caspian Border is open on the servers until the end of the beta period (10th).
SO GET IN THUR!

Mainly stress-testing, netcode testing, and thousands of people playing constantly are likely to find bugs that DICE may have missed. But yea, it's mainly for the servers and all the back-end stuff like hit detection and lag compensation and all that. Personally, that stuff is a bit more important because it directly and constantly affects gameplay, whereas a glitch in an area of a map can be avoided until a patch is put out, and those are usually day-1 patches.

They also balance weapons based on the data they get from people playing the beta. :)
