I've just finished LA Noire, and I have to say I was pretty disappointed in it. The animation they used on people's faces and such is tremendous, and easily the best looking I have seen in any game. But the gameplay and story felt a bit empty, almost like it was just a demo of the technology being used rather than being a game that incorporated that technology.

^I thought it was the best game I've played in a long time. Not sure how much better of a story you can ask for from a video game. Maybe the clue-hunting got a bit repetitve (although that was the point for a large portion of the game), but I thought they changed enough up from case to case.

The investigations did get too dull after a while, yeah. But it was made worse by the fact that I didnt really care for any of the characters, there wasnt anything particularly memorable about Cole Phelps, and his personality wasnt one that I was desperate to see things go well for him, which made the investigations seem even more mundane.
When I think of games that have characters I care about, I'm thinking along the lines of John Marston, Ezio Auditore di Firenze and Nathan Drake. All characters that have been shown to have far more personality than Cole Phelps, even Nico Belic I cared more for than Phelps!

I find it hard to really care about video character games in the first place, but his character was a no nonsense, by-the-books detective though, so it's tough to get too much emotional attachment there I guess.
And that's a good point DJ. It was weird how they always ran. |

He's also a better character than Ezio.

I'm one of those people who still likes the silent protagonist. The problem with all these deep mutli-dimensional characters is that they're trapped in a videogame, and as soon as the cut scene is over my character is going to try to jump off **** or try to hump any other female videogame character, because thats what i like to do.
Playing Darksiders now and it's really good. |
