I'm really enjoying it. I've kind of lightly browsed the wiki but my playing time has been pretty limited the past couple days, so I haven't gotten anywhere close to doing anything fancy. My proudest accomplishment has probably been figuring out how to make iron tools by myself.

And yeah I can't wait for beta. I read he's putting some kind of "adventure mode" in, where it's more about the surviving and exploring than the building. But maybe that's for a later update.

Fallout New Vegas. It's okay, fairly enjoyable but not up to par with Fallout 3.

Waiting for the Fallout: New Vegas add-on tomorrow.

A couple games I'm playing now:

Ninja Gaiden 2 (starting on it again, soon. It's ****ing harrrrrrrrd)
Red Faction: Guerrila
Halo: Reach
Army of Two: The 40th Day (or, as I call it, Army of Two: Two)

I think in terms of gameplay and variety it's better than 3. In terms of art direction, it's massively inferior.

Man, this game seemed good, but ended up feeling completely repetitive to me. I usually finish games, but this one eventually bored me to the point where I just stopped playing it.

Anyone else looking forward to Dead Space 2?

Me! Popular Mechanics ran an article about the baddies in Dead Space 2. Apparently, the Visceral design team went through a bunch of pictures of real people gored and torn to bits to help them design their monsters. They kept their "research" at the office in a carefully stashed folder, labeled "CAUTION: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC"

ick

Ew, that's a little unsettling. Anyways, I thought the first Dead Space was absolutely brilliant. It was such a delicious surprise to find that a game I initially expected to be no more than mediocre had me glued to the screen for hours and hours.

None of my RL friends have played it through though, which annoys me a little I've had noone to discuss it with.

Fresh out of an extended Resident Evil 4 binge, I was sure no other survival-horror game would ever compare in quality. Then I played Dead Space, which was basically RE4 in space. Fantastic score and atmosphere, very solid gameplay, and the most important part, it really made you feel like a survivor, not Rambo blasting through zombies like a hot knife through butter.

I think my main complaint about Dead Space was the lack of boss battles. IIRC, there were two real boss fights (maybe three), including the final boss. Killing the same necromorphs over and over does get tedious, even when the situation is changing. One thing RE4 did exceptionally well was pushing the intense, difficult, and interesting boss battles onto you at the perfect pace.
