though i must say i was VERY disappointed when my very first character (also named Dave) made it to the aptly named Republic of Dave in the far northeast and was greeted by none other than Dave and not he nor a single other character in that area noticed that there was a new Dave in the midst of their current 'election'.
it left me more disappointed than not being able to send in my super mutant buddy to handle project purity at the end of the main story.

Haha. I've always completed quests the "good" way because I just feel like a total d ick if I don't and plus, I do enough stealing and pickpocketing and killing of traders that I almost feel like completing a quest for positive karma is like an act of contrition. Partly that, anyway, but also partly because you get far better rewards for completing quests the good way. But now... heh.. now I will be such an amazing ass hole.
lol @ the Dave thing. For some reason I only ever started that quest once. And only because I started "You gotta shoot 'em in the head". I had done it on a good character because I had heard you get power armor at the end of it if you juke that one ghoul, but something screwed up and the Dave ended up running off and getting killed by deathclaws somewhere in the wasteland and I couldn't find him to get his special key without spawning it. When I start that quest again, I guarantee you... Dave will be tasting dirt, and I will have his special key legitimately.
Oh, and UGH at followers. I always help out the supermutant guy.. forget his name... and send him on his way. I don't like followers getting my XP. I take care of enemies myself. I even got Dogmeat and made him stay in my player home. lol... just so I can look at him when I'm gearing up. I'd rather not have to give him stimpacks when he gets shot by raiders.. plus, he only growls when red marks appear on my meter anyway, so he's bound by my own perception... he really does no good unless your skills and weapons are crap.
P.S...
If you're on PC.. you should be racking up on mods. FOOK2 and MMM for the win. (plus player homes. I have one in Springvale, underground.)
When you've used the "Terrible Shotgun" that boasts 12 shells a mag and at full condition takes off 90 HP... you're having fun.
