The best part of the Silent Hill movie was the atmosphere, which really captured the atmosphere of the game(s). Even had the same music. The monsters were done very well, the FX one-up'ed the games, and the story line tied all the games together.
I used to love the Silent Hill games, so that probably has a lot to do with it, but I thought they did very well with it.

I like the Resident Evil franchise as well, but I think Silent Hill payed more attention to detail with their movie.

Haha, I remember I had #2 on PS2, if I'm not mistaken. It was a great game, and less button-mashy than some of today's fighting games.

Still can't play the second game if I'm alone in the dark.

Definitely. They really kinda expanded and capitalized on creepiness in video games to me.. I think my first seed of creepiness in video games was "Uninvited" for the Nintendo when it came out. Set the stage. Then years later when Resident Evil was doing its thing, it helped things along. (Especially the first time you meet the first zombie in the first game. It was pretty dramatic at the time.
But when I started playing the Silent Hill games, the terror was so much more psychological and subtle. They did fear better than Resident Evil, in my opinion.

Silent Hill definately did the fear factor better than Resident Evil and spooked me out seriously at the time. Resident Evil games though, have far more depth storywise and the playability was always superior.

i just found a place where i can download complete packs of roms from all the old console systems - Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Atari, Coleco, Commodore... tens of thousands of old school games.

each ROM is compressed (7zip), and the packs can be plugged into a GUI where i can launch them with my favorite emulator without having to uncompress them.

now i never have to leave the house again :D

roms are nice but they usually slow the hell out of my computer
