Told myself I was done with Skyrim. Then I bought it on yet another platform and am sinking entire daya into it yet again.

Damn it. If I had a functioning PC I'd be all over this. Two suggestions I have is watch some old school StarCraft matches cause they rule and provide excellent motivation to get better and are just a great way to pass the time once you have an idea what's going on (Flash v. Jaedong is the Platonic ideal of StarCraft).
And the other suggestion is to check out Day9's series on learning StarCraft cause he's really great about breaking down the game. https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=...CUFoRtgQe3LCf1

I'd say play the campaign first. It isn't particularly easy and trains you to actually play the game. It would absolutely be helpful to watch some actual tutorials though since the meta of the competitive game evolved FAR beyond the base game to the point that they're not even the same game.
Playing either the campaign or the AI in skirmish mode will teach you nothing of the advanced mechanics or strategies. The only way you can learn the finer points of build orders, micro and macro, hotkeys, how to use the mouse and keyboard, playing Terran v. Zerg/Terran v. Terran/Terran v. Protoss/Zerg v. Zerg/Zerg v. Protoss/Protoss v. Protoss will require looking for resources beyond the base game itself. And that's to say nothing of the sheer practice it takes to build situational awareness and muscle memory necessary to play the game competitively. StarCraft is serious business.

StarCraft is a pretty hard game for that. Even against the computer in skirmish mode there's only one difficulty mode and it's pretty hard. I'd suggest playing some of the old Command & Conquer games like Red Alert or Tiberium Sun as they're easier to pick up and more forgiving. Red Alert 2 is my gold standard for pure fun RTS games but it's a glitchy ass game to play on modern hardware and as of at least a few years ago had never been fixed to play on a new computer. The first Blitzkrieg is a game I'd definitely recommend but it's pretty slow paced. Slow paced enough you can basically do whatever you want though and it's just a blast to play against the computer.
So I guess I'd suggest either checking out Tiberium Sun or Blitzkrieg for a more fun less intimidating experience.

Nah we played the first game. If your computer can play 2 then it's super fun as well but I think you have to go through some rigamarole to play against the computer like in skirmish mode cause they took that feature out to encourage online play. It's still not my fav RTS but it's very good with an engaging story if you play the campaign. I think the base game is free but the the expansions with all of their many new units you have to pay for.

It's old and basic as **** but any C&C is good. C&C 3 is really great if your computer can run it. If it can run League of Legends it can probably play C&C 3 Tiberium Wars.
