Same tbh. It doesn't have the magic of that first time playing 3, and I after god knows how many hundreds of hours spent in New Vegas it's starting to feel like old hat. Still great but I kind of have this theory about the way the worlds look in these games and how it syncs up with how I feel about them.

3 was a blasted hellscape with not much in it that was insane for that first playthrough but once you've done everything the drabness emphasizes the emptiness in a bad way.

New Vegas has a similar environment because it's already a desert wasteland but I guess wasn't hit by nukes as bad as Washington DC would have been so the environment looks bleak but still natural, and society has advanced in the time skip from 3 so while the world is still very post-apocalyptic there's more settlements and they tend to be bigger and more like towns rather than rickety forts, which goes along with the wild west theme.

But 4 is even farther down the timeline and now you have actual trees to make the world look almost normal now. And you're in Boston which doesn't seem to be quite the horror that Washington was, so the whole world has tipped over from blasted hellscape to just abandoned ****hole. So everything looks nicer but isn't as engaging as it doesn't quite feel like the ultimate representation of a post-apocalyptic world that 3 and to a lesser extent New Vegas did.

Very well said and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I did a somewhat recent play through of Fallout: New Vegas, and it surpassed Fallout 3 in terms of my favorite Fallout game. I had played it once before then and I didn't really get into it much. This last time, I played it seriously and did as much as I possibly could. I love Fallout 3 a lot though. It was my introduction to Fallout and I still think its one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, as you said, that first experience was enough to experience it, and it's not really that much fun when you go back and play. The feeling of dread kind of goes away when you know what to expect. But the first time I ever walked the D.C. mall and saw everything just destroyed, that certainly was an amazing experience through and through. The game's story is also not bad. It's not super great, but I enjoyed it.

Fallout 4 really nailed it when they came out with the Far Harbor DLC. As much as I really do enjoy the crafting and the lighter feel and look to everything in Fallout 4, it was really nice to see that they went back and did a much darker toned DLC. I did the Far Harbor DLC 100% and got one of my favorite weapons - Krevm's Tooth, or however you spell it. Can't remember exactly where you get it or if it's in the DLC, but I just know I got it around or near me finishing the DLC. Absolutely still a great game though. I actually do enjoy the crafting quite a bit. I've made my Sanctuary place with like several levels of areas to go to. Shops etc. It's actually not terribly complicated. It's nice to have a use for all the junk you find as well. Makes exploring a bit more interesting and rewarding.

And I don't even wanna talk about Fallout 76. Despite the fact that I actually enjoy it. It didn't take long for me to see its weaknesses again and stop playing. I'd just much rather play Fallout 4.

Hell yeah I'm glad you finally accept that New Vegas is most the legit 1st person Fallout game. Cause it absolutely is.

The crafting system in 4 does indeed do a lot to freshen the gameplay though. I even love the seemingly minor mechanic that duct tape of all things becomes the most valuable commodity cause adhesive is like gold and it's the most common form of adhesive. You not only have to worry about how much something weighs versus its value but what components its made of and sometimes you have to make hard decisions about whether you value money or components more.

Just started a new game and even if the magic of old isn't the same it's hard to think of a game that sucks up your time like a Fallout game.

Doing that 2nd play through of Fallout: New Vegas made me realize just how deep the game actually is. The story is actually fantastic as well. It's very grabbing and that's tough to do, especially in an open world setting. The whole Vegas strip was really ****ing cool as well. I had a blast going through there time and time again just to see what I could find. It definitely creates a great setting for what the game is going for. That area with all the Elvis impersonators is one of my favorite moments in gaming. Probably ever.

I also have to give credit to the build of the game because no matter what I play on, I have virtually no issues with loading, broken graphics, etc. Fallout 3, for how great it is, is just a broken mess unless you know how to fix it. Which is unfortunate because that's the biggest reason why I don't go back. In fairness, I did pick up both New Vegas and Fallout 3 on PS3 recently, but I just don't have a PS3 yet. Planning on getting one though. Fallout 4 I would say it's kind of a nice mix. It runs well sometimes, but has issues other times. Not enough to keep me from playing though. I understand seeing as it's such a big endeavor. It works well for what it is, I would say.

I just surpassed 100 hours on my Steam version and I'm still playing the same file that I started with. Almost level 61 and I'm just having a ****ing blast. My Sanctuary is filled to the brim with power armor. Which, I don't know about you, but I ****ing love the way they handled power armor in Fallout 4. It feels like collecting.

I haven't actually gotten far enough on any playthrough to get more than the beginning set of power armor.

Man...the feeling you get when you walk upon an abandoned military bunker or something and you find a set of power armor just sitting there. It's pretty gratifying. Usually it's behind like a master level lock or something.

I’ve been playing a bunch of Dead By Daylight lately. Tons of fun, anyone here tried it? It’s an asymmetrical 1v4 game where you play either survivor or killer. Both roles are fun
