Oh man...I hate facebook games. People need to stop inviting me to play farmtown or farm ville or whatever the hell it is. I don't want to be a ****ing farmer.
Wait, I take that back. There is a good music trivia game I like to play on there. Mostly because I always win!

All my friends play them and my home page is littered with their stupid achievements. And then there's all the requests I get. BE MY FARMVILLE NEIGHBOUR! ACCEPT A CAFE WORLD GIFT!
Anyways, I'm playing Call Of Duty Classic on PS3. Even in 2009, it kicks the crap out of the other games in the series as far as fun goes. Not to mention its multiplayer maps are still the best the franchise has seen. Haven't played MW2 yet though.

The classic Call of Duty's, particularly 2, were definitely underrated and as you said they included some of the best multiplayer maps I have ever played. I found my experiences with Modern Warfare to be quite underwhelming, and as Modern Warfare 2 appears to be more of the same I haven't bothered picking it up. Then again, I don't have Live anymore, so there's not much point in actually purchasing any 360 games. 40 quid for a 6 hour single player campaign? No thanks. The last 360 game I bought was Arkham Asylum which I completed within the day of buying.

New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Awesome sauce. Granted this game is pure old school Mario, if you're expecting anything innovative then you're looking at the wrong place, but anyone who criticizes this game over that is a complete f*cking moron. "Omg they ran out of ideas this looks just like an old Mario game." And that's the goddamn point, idiot.... sigh. What was I saying? Oh yes, this game f*cking rules, the 4 player co op is an awesome new feature. But you'd think co op would make a Mario game too easy right? WRONG. Quite the opposite, me and my brother had a blast playing this but this game is a lot harder on multiplayer than single player especially when playing with someone not as skilled as you. Characters bounce off another and accidently throw shells at each other. It's chaotic, and I love it. To even out the difficulty multiplayer brings, the game is very generous with it's power ups and checkpoints, but even those might not help much with the toughest spots. Never play this game with a sore loser. Single player though is pretty easy. Well, I haven't beaten the world 2 boss yet, but I made it that far pretty quickly. I'm getting New Super Mario Bros Wii tomorrow and I'm very excited. I don't see the problem with continuing the old-school Mario series, as long as Nintendo are still innovating the franchise in other ways. I was a bit disappointed that a Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced instead of a brand new 3D Mario title, but then again considering the short amount of time since the last Galaxy was released it would've been pretty impossible to craft an entirely new world and we should just be thankful that we're getting a new Mario game so soon.
4-player co-operative side-scrolling Mario is the perfect way to win over old-school Nintendo fans whilst also pleasing casual gamers. I think it's an excellent marketing plan and I wouldn't mind seeing these sorts of ideas thrown into other popular Nintendo franchises.

Sorry Yahtzee, this one is not only wrong it's not even funny. Why should a game always have to be innovative to warrant it's existance? Sometimes it's best to stick to a formula and improve on it. Sonic 2, Mega Man 2, Super Metroid and Castlevania IV weren't innovative, but they improved on the original formula and thus are more often than not considered superior to their predecessors, the same is often said for games like Half Life 2. I'm not saying this game deserves comparisons to those classics. But I think this game proves that games don't need to be innovation, there's already a big market in games that try to be innovative and I personally think that games that simply polish old formulas are more likely to be good than games that try to be innovative anyway. And besides, 4 player co op for a platformer IS a pretty innovative idea. But whatever, 2D platforming is back and it's here to stay and thank god for that. Fingers crossed that the upcoming 2D Metroid, Kirby and Sonic games for the Wii don't disappoint. Last edited by boo boo; 12-13-2009 at 05:27 AM. |
