I imagine you're thinking of Nightfire. I played it on Xbox and it had dual stick. ****ty dual stick but dual stick. I don't know if the Gamecube version was different.

I have a hard time believing that 0 games on Gamecube used dual stick controls. Just a hunch...

Yes, Dual Shock is Playstation's branding.

I'm not buying that it only functioned in 4 directions. I would have to go back to check, but it's a STICK.
