Supporting people like Pitchford with your money is actively making the industry worse. Devs are being treated like slaves, and have their livelihoods ruined if they speak out about their physical and sexual abuse. It's that simple. If you're alright with that, then go ahead and do whatever.

And yeah, it's "just a game" in the same way that movies are "just movies" and books are "just books". Exploiting any kind of art is messed up imo, but hey, to each their own.
