I'd be curious of an MMO that wasn't any kind of trend. A bunch of people on a game they hadn't just heard about but who were hardcore into gaming to the point that they were obsessed with a 20-year-old game no one knows about sounds far different than WOW or ARK or whatever. I don't know what the Ultima Online community is like or if there are "sections of the community for everybody" but it sounds interesting at least.

Its divided into a few groups.. The "hardcore pvp" manchildren that **** talk each other and challenge people to duels for gold to make everyone aware of their epeen, the Roleplayers, and the long term casuals like me who found a game they love and just play to have a good time with other like minded people. I'm in a guild with a bunch of adults who just enjoy goofing off together, we recruit newbs and try to teach them the game and do what we can to make the community pleasant.
The biggest divide is really among the mindset of Felucca vs Trammel. In the Fel ruleset player killing outside of safe zones is allowed. In Trammel the entire world is safe and all player verse player combat is forced to be consensual. I like knowing some random player killer can run up and any point and slay me while im out farming, it adds excitement. I also like that if im out farming and some guy is pulling mobs on me and being a total ****head that i can solve the problem myself by attacking him. This server is Felucca based. As you'd expect any server that is Felucca based is also filled with toxic internet ****heads that enjoy ruining the game for others more than playing the game itself. It's a trade off im willing to accept. |

Sounds like Trammel is great for people just trying to play the game and Felucca is for people who know the game inside and out and aren't worried about a player killer ruining their fun. I'm not a PvP kinda guy tbh.

I'm not either.. I just like that kind of thing exist. When Trammel was introduced in the official game years ago it was actually a mirror copy of the prexisting world but safe (you took a portal to travel between the worlds). Most of the population migrated there and player count went up, but that was not the game that I had come to know and love and I quit shortly after to play on player run servers that didnt make the game "carebear". If you want just the PvM experience I can look around for a less brutal server, though I can assure you the population will be much smaller.
Players being able to ruin your experiences can be headache inducing but it makes the world feel alive and there isnt much you lose from dying. Most of the items are player made and abundant. There are also skills like Tracking which I use on my character, so I can track player killers from 80 tiles away from me and gtfo before I die. |

I mean it's gonna be a bit till I get a real computer (a Chromebook literally cannot run exe.'s at all) but I want to play the game like it should be played. I'm not a PVP guy but if that's the game then I'm down.

It sounds like hella fun so I'll let you know. Playing 360 RPGs really lays in just how cramped RPGs can be and I need to branch out with some crazy PC ****.

There isn't a single RPG on the PS3/360 systems that I thought was all that good. Ironically, I probably had the most fun with a couple of the most broken ones: Divinity II and Risen 3. (Not Divinity 2: Original Sin. That's another game, confusingly enough. Never played that one.)

The reason I prefer dungeon crawlers to "full blown" RPGs is that I hate wasting my time trying to make something interesting happen.
Life is too short to spend wandering aimlessly around digital worlds. |

I used to play RPGs a heck of a lot, so I get the attraction, but I also kinda look back at it as wasted time I'll never get back.
I've got probably triple digit hours wasted on Daggerfall alone. |
