This is why I don't **** on you for hating so many games cause I know where you're coming from. I'm just more willing to be distracted by those other mechanics.

I've had my fun with all sorts of games through the years. But I guess I kinda burned out on a lot of things - especially of the more "mainstream" type games (third person, first person and open world games especially). Haven't touched my Xbox in ages. I really like games that have a focused gameplay loop and then do something interesting with that. Various DOS games I've been playing today all fit that mold of being pretty single minded, though not necessarily superficial.

Haven't really played much in a long time, totally going in depth today.

Bought Quake, Jagged Alliance and Jagged Alliance 2 on GOG this evening.

I've never actually played Jagged Alliance 1 and 2. Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games is the one I'm familiar with, and it's a sort of 1½ semi-sequel to the first game. I think the random generated campaign mode that I always play and the editor modes are unique to Deadly Games, so I never bothered with the first game. Seems like a probable mistake, so I'm finally going to give the rest of the series a go. Seems the price was slashed considerably from what was stated at first. I think it's because I already have Deadly Games.

Played some Quake for now. Mission pack 1 and 2. I remember playing them back in the day. The first mission pack kinda sucks, but the second one has some things going for it. It's just that I forgot how mercilessly repetitive Quake really is... Probably not gonna play these all that much.

Quake II is better, though still has its fair share of repetition. Have The Reckoning mission pack for it too. Basically my go-to game whenever I'm listening to industrial.

I played that way back, close to when it first came out, but remember not really clicking with it at all. There's just something about the Quake games that isn't doing it for me. They're harshing my mellow.

I liked Quake 1 a lot originally, but it never held up for me like the best 90's FPS games did. I can still play Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 2, Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad, but I seem to be done with Quake. Already uninstalled it after just an hour or so this time :/

Assuming it's got regular SATA connectors, you can take it out of your machine and probably just hook it up to one of these:

^Sata to USB connector.

Last time I needed to fiddle with a loose HD, I screwed apart my external hard drive and used the connector inside it's housing, so if you have an external HD, you could try that.

Yeah, I don't play Quake nearly as much as I do Doom. I've probably played Doom 1 and 2 more than any other game (Other than maybe Lego Racers which I played way too much of when I was a kid). Still need to get Rise of the Triad someday.

Have you played any of the Star Wars Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games?

I wanted to post a vid for Mic of the random interlude in Travis Strikes Again where it becomes an old school green-and-black PC text-based adventure, but I'll just put this one up instead for Mondo:

Definitely add Rise of the Triad to the list of games that I've booted up the highest number of times. I still start it up and use a cheat to pick a stage, then just play 1 or 2 of them here or there. I even played the game front to back again just a couple years back. All of those stages are familiar like old friends now
