Should be getting those on wednesday. What did you guys think of them?
you'll have fun with these. dead space is infuriating but in a good way. and it's absolutely beautiful. it got a little complicated for me later on and i never finished it, but then, i don't have much time to play these days.

which is why left4dead is so awesome. i only ever do single player so i can just jump in for a quick 10-minute level whenever i want. the game is absolutely simple - just kill zombies. a few weapons and powerups, but little strategy or skill required.

oh, and left4dead2 just came out...

Yes! Best game I've played in a long time If we weren't discussing FPSes, I'd be praising this one much more. Absolutely addicting and bloody brilliant from start to finish. I'm serious, anyone who's a cynic about the state of games today should be instantly converted if they ever try it.

Get it!!

we'll have to agree to disagree. i've tried to get into it a few times and i just can't be bothered to pick it up again after beating the first level or two, and that's really what turned me off. the fact that you're clearly beating stages as opposed to exploring a vast underwater facility.

besides, if you happen to have played the original System Shock the finale in System Shock 2 becomes one of the single greatest video game experiences ever. i've never seen (let alone heard) of any other sequel pulling off Shodan's final move. BRILLIANT.

Hey I'm the retro guy, the more dated the graphics are the better.

i wouldn't necessarily call it a FPS necessarily but Fallout3 is also well worth playing.
Yeah that one also comes to mind.

also if you can get your hands on a copy of No One Lives Forever do it (part 1 over 2, but it doesn't really matter - they're both fantastic)
Ok then, thanks for that recommendation.

Shweet. I never really play action games like it but it seems really good.

Also, since this seems to be the right thread, I thought I'd ask, as a kid who's never (or rarely) played any retro games or anything earlier than 2003-ish what are some good games to get to start it off? Maybe X-Com or something? Preferably PC as I'd rather not have to buy an entire console just to play some old games.

The first XCOM is quite brilliant Definetly an old classic, that one. You don't really say what kind of games you're after, though. There's a lot of good titles in different genres from earlier times. If you want RPGs f.ex, there's Fallout 1 and 2 and Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and then there's Planescape: Torment for starters. There are lots of old adventure games too and particularly the old Lucasarts titles like Monkey Island 1 & 2 and Day of the Tentacle are fun.

The game that came to mind first because I've been thinking about it a bit recently and also when I made my favourite games list is the game Transport Tycoon Deluxe. It's a management game in which you run a transport company that deals in various kinds of transport like shipment of goods or people by trains, boats, cars and planes.

What's brilliant is that a team of smarties are developing an open source version of the game which even has a few fixes and so on. To install it, you need the old game (it uses the graphics) but you can find that easily on an abandonware site somewhere ..

The open source project and download can be found here : OpenTTD

It's really addictive Click here for a screenie if you want a better idea of what it's like. It's hours of fun!

Still play Dragon Age. I really love the amount of lore there is, it really makes me want to explore the entire world, not just one country.

Thanks I'll definitely look into those. I'm not really looking for a specific type of game (hate it when people say that) just the good oldies
