@Ori

Did you know there are two Koei (Dynasty Warriors) type games for Fist of the North Star?

There's something so pure about platformers with that controller

Agreed. I don't really care about how I play Chrono Trigger but obviously the best way is on a CRT TV with a cramped controller not meant to be held by human hands. So it still feels wrong that it isn't on the SNES Classic.

As someone who has played almost every Koei DW type game up until the PS4 generation, I think those two were sadly pretty terrible.

The Koei games on PS2 remain the best imo

They seemed to forget how to make games after the Koei/Tecmo merger.

The Batlord 08-17-2018 01:10 PM

You sound like someone who nitpicks the mechanics of Koei games.

MicShazam 08-17-2018 01:11 PM

Stop doing that knee jerk thing every time I have an opinion about games.

Samurai Warriors 2 is my favorite in every way, including atmosphere. DW4 following close along on that particular side.

DW4 was def great. I forget, was 5 the first on the 360 where they dropped 90% of the character campaigns, had a vastly reduced map pool, and generally was mindlessly repetitive even for DW?

No, DW5 was published both on PS2 and 360, but was made for PS2 and just slightly scaled up for 360. I thought it was a great game. It had every character from DW4, plus a few new ones and more polished graphics, fewer bugs, etc.
DW5 felt maybe a tad less atmospheric, but I've played it a ton.

DW6 was where they changed the combat system, removed lots of characters, gave a lot of characters the same fighting style (dumb move) and just generally ruined everything fun about these games.

I love DW4, even if it was a bit broken. Also a massive nostalgia thing making it impossible for me to be in any way objective about that game.

The Batlord 08-17-2018 01:27 PM

Yeah I'm definitely thinking of 6. That was one of my greatest gaming letdowns of all-time. You should never be done with a DW game after less than a week. What were they thinking?

MicShazam 08-17-2018 01:31 PM

I had bad times with that game. Tried to like it for way too long. Now I feel slightly ill even thinking of it.

The Batlord 08-17-2018 01:35 PM

I think I was done with it pretty quick and then went back to Samurai Warriors 2: Empires for dogs' years. Not a truly brilliant game but the Civ-extremely lite setup was always fun to do again and again and again.
