I think it works for the feel of the game. But they really aren't anything special. The only art style in it that blew me away was the twilight realm. The look for the twilight realm was just perfection.
Also Boo Boo, have you played Phantom Hourglass? I'd like to hear your opinions on it. |

Now HL2 isn't an rpg, but the same is true for games like Oblivion and Fallout 3. For the same reason, I find FPSes like Bioshock, the latest Call of Cthulhu and F.E.A.R. are comparatively creepier than other kinds of games.

I think it's a nice option, but I agree that romance shouldn't have to be important. I never wanted it in Dragon Age, but I have encountered it a couple of times. I even had to break up with one of the other characters and she didn't like me much afterwards. I never even wanted to romance her, it just happened! I'm a dwarf for Gods sake, leave me alone you perverted male elfs and female humans. Interspecies? Yech.
All I know about Borderlands is that it claims to be a sort of multiplayer RPG and it looks a bit like an FPS deathmatch .. .. sounds rather brilliant, but also a bit puzzling. Is it something completely different?

it looks really nice for its time and whatever, and it does have a certain charm to it, but there's nothing that strikes me as spectacular about it. Shooting and whipping is incredibly frustrating, as is the health system, and it's a bitch trying to figure out whats in the background and whats in the foreground. I do like the boss battles, though.

I think my personal favourite platformer for the SNES is Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse. Aside from Mickey moving just a little bit slow, it's got everything. Great graphics, awesome music, varied gameplay, good controls, humour and good overall charm. At least it beats Earthworm Jim by a landslide.

You're overrated.
I don't find anything bad about the controls, though the whip does take some practice, using it to graple onto things requires a bit of accuracy and it should only be used for a weapon as a last resort because it really sucks as a melee weapon, the gun however is perfectly fine and only a n00b will ever run out of ammo. I also find it a bit akward that when you get a new weapon you can't switch back to your main one until you've used up your powerup which means you can save it for when you really want to use it, the SNES version fixed that problem though. (I still prefer the Genesis version for other reasons). As for the level design, I've never had any trouble at all when deciphering what's in the foreground and what's in the background, if it looks like I can jump on it then I probably can. I love this game, I had a lot of great memories back in the day but I still enjoy it just as much now, it might not be the most innovative platformer of it's time, but it's certainly creative, it was the early predecessor to games like Conker's Bad Fur Day and Psychonauts, and like those games what it lacked in groundbreaking gameplay was made up for by it's incredible amount of variety, unique style and tons of personality. The presentation, character designs, humor, graphics and music are all fantastic, but what I love most about the game is how drastically the design changes with each level, one moment you're navigating underwater mazes in a submarine, the next you're bungie jumping in a giant pit of bubbling hot mucus, and after that you're trying to escort a puppy through a meteor shower. The game has a steep learning curve but my favorite kinds of platformers are the ones that constantly change things up and keep you on your toes and Earthworm Jim does that better than most. My only real complaint about the game is that it's a bit short. Other than that it's still one of my favorite games. We'll just have to disagree heavily on this one. Quote:
I could understand you not liking it but the last thing I'd call this game is boring. Last edited by boo boo; 11-10-2009 at 02:32 PM. |
