Playing Halo: Anniversary and I'm just about to fight the Flood for the first time (again) and it occurred to me. I never owned an XBox or Halo back in the day. I played the **** out of it but always co-op with my best friend. We had to have beaten that game at least twice and played partway countless other times. But this is the first time I'm ever going to play that god damn part where you meet the Flood all by myself. Man, I don't need this ****. I don't wanna fight space zombies. This level ****ed with me and my friend when we were kids and I'm just as big a pussy now and I'm solo to boot.

Those levels honestly caused me to to get rid of my copy of Halo Anniversary. I like some of the later games much, much better.
Anyway, in other horrible gaming news, I just uninstalled Darkest Dungeons today. I'm gonna come back to it, but right now, that game can **** right off. Last edited by MicShazam; 07-13-2018 at 04:36 PM. |

Holy **** I forgot how confusing that first Flood mission is. Just a bunch of rooms with no clear indication of which door you're supposed to go through and the doors blend into the walls unless you're looking directly at them and if you fall off the second level you have to figure out that there are some boxes you have to jump on to get back up cause there's no indication that there's no way out on the first level and by this time you're hopelessly confused and you've gone backwards throughout the whole thing at least once and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH now I ****ing remember this from almost two decades ago! ****ing old school games and not holding your hand.

I tried to play Eye of the Beholder earlier this year. It throws every nasty old school level design trick at you within the first few dungeon floors. I was getting stuck constantly. Not playing anymore of that crap. I don't need to feel like the designers have nothing better to do than to troll me.

Or maybe you could just not quit things that frustrate you. If the whole game were like that then I'd chuck it out the window but in the context of this level it adds to the tension since you just want to get the hell out and you think you can skip a bunch of Flood who are all chilling below you but then you get lost and fight them all anyway frantically searching for the exit so hope and reality clash and make the Flood scarier than they'd be on their own. Unfortunately the designers did their job a little too well and if you have a bad sense of direction it gets legit frustrating.

I've completed some pretty nasty games, but the first Halo really made me feel like a tired old man before I could get the credits to roll. I completed several of the other games, but 1 and 3 drained my patience to a negative value.
I wouldn't say that I just chicken out when a game gets hard. But some games make me feel like I'd rather do dishes than play any more. |
