Just got my megadrive working. Words cannot describe how great this game is. |

Oh dear. It's Strider.

Strider is a fantastic game, but holy f*ck is it hard, probably the hardest Genesis game (that dosen't suck) I've played after Eternal Champions and Contra: Hard Corps.

I should have Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi coming tomorrow. Streets of Rage and Shinobi I loved as a kid but I've somehow never played Golden Axe. |
Golden Axe is showing it's age, it's easy to tell that it's an early Genesis game, the characters feel really stiff to control and animation and voices are unintentionally funny, but it's still a super fun game and one of the Gen's first killer app games, multiplayer is so fun, the rideable monsters and magic powers are really great features and it's one of the more challenging beat em ups I've played. And kicking dwarves is always fun. Golden Axe II is more of the same but I think I prefer it for the more responsive controls.
Streets of Rage 1 is a great game, not as good as the sequels but being the first one gave it a big wow factor in the early 90s, when you compare it to SNES's lackluster port of Final Fight, it was no wonder arcade fans opted for the Genesis instead. It had everything that game didn't, multiplayer, lush and colorful graphics and great techno inspired music. Revenge of Shinobi is still one of my favorite action platformers of all time. Excellent graphics for a 1989 game, amazing soundtrack and the solid challenging gameplay the series is known for. The controls can be a little stiff at times, but nonetheless, it's one of the essentials for the Genesis. Shinobi III is also a great game so you should check that one out if you don't have it already. |
I just installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky inspired by our earlier discussion. I haven't played it much yet because there was a headbobbing motion in it that made me feel quite sick even after just a minute or so. Fortunately, I checked on the net and I wasn't the only one who got motion sickness from this game. I just installed a little hack someone made that should take care of the problem, hopefully it will.
You'd think that if your game makes people motion sick because of an easily fixable headbobbing, the developers would do something about it. |
That's one of the follies of games that strive for realism I suppose.

Playing uncharted 2. Easily the best game of this year so far.
