2. I think you're right, every console has a "personality", which is what the Wii is being criticized for. Nintendos demographic dosen't consist of the GTA kind of crowd, so I don't think that will hurt Nintendo. But they already have games like Bully and No More Heroes for the system, so it dosen't make a lot of sense. 3. I'm right with ya there buddy. Quote:
Objectively? I'd say the top 10 greatest games of all time would be something like this. Ocarina of Time Super Mario Bros 3 Street Fighter II Final Fantasy III (yeah, I hate calling it VI) Doom Grand Theft Auto III Link to the Past Super Mario 64 Civilization II Super Mario Bros That's about right, but my top 10 favorite games (at the moment) would be something like this. Super Smash Bros Brawl Ocarina of Time Super Mario Bros 3 Street Fighter II Link to the Past Sonic 3 & Knuckles TMNT IV: Turtles in Time Super Mario Galaxy Star Fox 64 Super Mario World |

The estimated worldwide sales of the Saturn right now is somwhere around 17million, console sales do exceed their lifetime, you know. You're only counting up until the consoles death, which is just ridiculous, even the Turbografx 16 sold more than 9 million past it's lifetime and it shouldn't even be debatable that the Saturn didn't have it that bad. How a console sells even after it's discontinued is still very important. Now you may say it's an unfair comparison, calling a 2 year old a console a failure based on how it compares to the accumulated sales of a system that's well over a decade old. But it does matter, a system as big and hyped as the PS3 was expected to sell much higher. The Wii has already outsold the Genesis and the original X Box. The Gamecube still has more units sold than the PS3. Quote:
And video game consoles aren't like music CD's, their sales actually ARE a good indicator. Sure there are great consoles like the Dreamcast that haven't sold well. But I still can't think of a "bad" console that has sold more than 20 million. Quote:
"Hey, will you please add Snake to your upcoming Smash Bros game as a thinly veiled way to promote my new MGS game for the PS3? What? Pay you back with a MGS for the Wii? f*ck you" Sounds like a real assh*le to me. Also, they made a MGS game for the f*cking PSP, it's graphics are somewhere around PS1 quality. Don't tell me graphics is an issue with the Wii. Quote:

I never said it was a bad console. I'm merely retaliating by pointing out what I think are double standards.
All I'm trying to do is defend the Wii. I don't think the Wii is a bad console. And Christ, for a system that has already sold over 30 million units, you all still act like it's the Atari f*cking Jaguar or something. If you want to waste $400 on a 360 with blu ray, be my guest, but don't tell me that because I like a console not only because it's doing something different from it's competition but also because it gives me exactly what I spent my $199 on that I'm somehow in the fanboy minority. 34 million isn't that much of a minority. |

I'm really glad nintendo found so much success with the wii. I was disappointed when the Gamecube didn't sell much and then I heard about the Wii and I thought it was going to bomb for sure and Nintendo was going to wind up as another Sega.

I don't think anyone is gonna go the way of Sega any time soon. Certainly not Nintendo, the DS and Wii should already compensate for the loss they suffered with the Gamecube. With as many hits as Nintendo have had, a failure or two isn't gonna hurt them. Unlike Sega who's had only one console that has ever broken 20 million and were burdoned by one failure after another.
I don't think Sony have anything major to worry about either. Sega are only a video game company. Sony are a hardware and entertainment company with many divisions and subsidiaries, not even the PS3's utter ass whooping at the hands of Nintendo and Microsoft would be enough to really hurt their business, though a similar underperformance from the PS4 or PS5 might. There's enough room for 3 consoles. No one is doomed. Anyone who says otherwise is a f*cking idiot. |
