And the newest book didn't even have Master Chief in it, and is an incredibly boring read. |

Why did you use a picture of uncharted? It has a great story.
Mario and Sonic both have been in RPGS. Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi all these games had fairly deep stories for mario games, and in no way were they lesser because of it. Even the new Mickey Mouse game for wii is going to have a pretty dramatic narrative. You just haven't played many new games with a story. Heavy Rain and Alan Wake look crazy good. And Yahtzee is funny as hell. He jokes about hating everything in multiple episodes. He admits to purposefully hating everything because that's what hes supposed to do. |

A good point, ignoring how lame the 'use your imagination' section reads, not all games need a storyline, and criticising a game for not having one is kind of missing the point. Not that story can't work, but it's only ever going to be the garnish on top of gaming mechanics. Because the fun of a game doesn't come from a narrative. And a game will always have trouble trying to compete with a novel or a film, because user interaction throws a spanner in storytelling.

I haven't played it nor was I implying that there was anything really wrong with it, I was just giving an example of a cutscene, I was lazy, so I googled cutscene and picked a random picture.
Yeah, I admit it. Quote:
I would love to see a Sonic action RPG that's based on the saturday morning cartoon and comic book rather than follow the canon of previous Sonic games, that would be cool. They need to bring back the concept of planet Mobius back, all this stuff with the Sonic games taking place on earth where humans are unphased by the sight of bipedal, talking blue hedgehogs is just freaking stupid. The Mario RPGs are fantastic, I love their sense of humor and how they poke fun at some of the cliches of the series. Trying to implement a complex storyline in a Mario platformer however would just feel convoluted. Sonic games are trying to go for the more complex storylines, and I admit to thinking the SA2B story was pretty cool, before following games revived Shadow only to turn him into a whiney emo kid. But yeah, a lot of times I just want things to go back to Robotnik being the main bad guy who just wants to turn bunnies into robots. Besides, complex storylines didn't help Shadow and Sonic 06 very much, did they? Quote:
The idea of making Oswald the Rabbit (the original Disney mascot) the villian is also quite brilliant. Definitely another Wii game I'm looking forward to. Quote:

Since video games are interactive, I think some of that interactivity should come from deciding what the story is yourself. I did that with a lot of old games. Mario and Sonic characters didn't have complex backstories, so I would often come up with my own backstories for characters, that in itself is fun to do. Quote:

hahaha i remember doing this with the first Front Mission game a few years ago. i had the rom for a snes emulator but the translation patch only handled the inventory and menu systems. all the dialog was still garbled. until i managed to spot these combinations of characters a few times 'r1b s' and 'b8q'. all of a sudden my posse of robots was crossing the world to mess up the bad guy who had stolen the ribs from my barbeque haha it was a glorious battle for some succulent pork hahaha |

I also like to make up causes for fights in Smash Bros, like what are the characters fighting over?
Samus fights Wolf because he has a bounty on his head and Samus wants to collect the reward. Donkey Kong punishes Wario because he tried to steal his hoard of bananas. Zelda attacks Peach because she made a crack about her taste in footwear, "what kinda princess wears boots anyway?". Pikachu goes after Mr. Game & Watch because, well, he's a racist. Sonic attacks Mario in a furious rage, pissed off because he made some snide remark about the quality of his more recent games, and saying that Sega are now "Nintendo's bitch", and also Mario angrily suspects Sonic might be screwing around with the Princess after finding a blue colored quill in her undergarments, hmm... I agree. He's funny, but he's a crap reviewer. I mean, he reviewed Halo 3 without trying the multiplayer part of the game. If you have any kind of integrity as a reviewer, you should know that Halo is known for multiplayer and so that should be part of the review.
