70: Nintendo being shat on by third parties since 1996 Why do you think Nintendo became so powerful in the first place? Sure the branding power of the plumber in red helped. But the NES and SNES were the powerhouses they were largely because of their third party support. NES crushed Sega's Master System for this, and even though Sega got big boys like Capcom, Konami, Midway and EA to sign on for the Genesis, the SNES still won out in the end, and it's strong third party support certainly played a part in that. But oh how things change. If you own a N64, Gamecube or Wii. You should probably know that most third party games for those systems blow ass. And even though they do have good third party games, a lot of them are non exclusive. This dosen't make them bad systems obviously because the first and second party games are great enough, but it seems like a waste that the only people that can do these systems justice are the very people that made them. I understand the initial reason Nintendo lost their third party support was because making N64 cartridge based was a retarded idea. It was pretty much the reason third parties flocked to Playstation and Saturn instead. They got it right with the Gamecube, but it didn't help, it's third party support was still utterlly pathetic compared to Playstation 2, Xbox and even the Dreamcast. And the Wii has the same exact problem when stacked up against PS3 and 360. I don't get it. Konami, Sega and Square Enix make EXCELLENT games for Nintendo's portable systems like the GBA and DS, so why don't their Gamecube and Wii games hold up in comparison? The Wii is a much better system than people give it credit for. If third party developers actually cared about the Wii (which they SHOULD, being the best selling system and easier to program for than the PS3) then they could show people what the system is truly capable of, but no, instead Konami and Square make their anticipated badass games for Sony, like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII, and what does the Wii get? Dewy's Adventure and a f*cking Cystal Cronicles sequel? What a slap in the face for Nintendo fans. There's no excuse for it, not anymore. One thing that hurts the Wii's reputation is all the shallow casual games and lame party games, f*ck you Hudson Soft. I mean Nintendo got a LOT of third parties to lend their classic games for the virtual console, which is pretty rad. But here's a novel concept. Maybe these same third party companies should make NEW games for the system. Oh well, at least we have Capcom to fall back on. EDIT: Oh wait, Street Fighter 4 won't be on the Wii, well f*ck you Capcom. Last edited by boo boo; 11-18-2009 at 07:51 AM. |

Oh yeah, another thing that pisses me off is that my Nintendo 64 has trouble getting a clear picture, I often have to slam my foot on the floor to get it to clear.
I hate that sh*t. |

what is it about all machines having a 'sweet spot?'
i used to take my car to a mechanic who could find the sweet spot on ANYTHING in your car by the third visit i had to just "tip" him for his hammering/clinking abilities since he managed to fix everything with a tap |

with the wii it's a whole new ballgame which either requires developers to learn those nuances on their own time (after being overworked on their other projects) or for the publisher to take a risk and invest into R&D time. even if more 3rd party developers released stuff for the wii it's not going to be a linear increase in quality games. how much shovelware is out for the DS? back in the NES / SNES days you had 10 turds for every great 3rd party game. the wii is like a double edged sword for nintendo. it definitely distinguishes them and reestablished their identity in the home console market, but the technical specialization of the machine creates a very large hurdle to be overcome by developers who have to be able to convince publishers of the economic feasibility of taking a risk with the new technology that IS more than just a kids toy you waggle. |

And yeah, I know all too well that NES and SNES have sh*tty games, no console is perfect, but those kinda games were made by less than reputable developers, like LJN or Fox Interactive. I'm talking about well respected video game developers, all I'm asking for the Wii is a better than average Konami and Square Enix game, is that too much to ask? Capcom can do it. And I mean holy f*ck, even Sega has a new Wii game that a lot of people are getting excited about, Madworld, weither or not it lives up to the hype I dunno, but it certainly looks very ambitious. Surely Konami or Square Enix could do SOMETHING. They can invest more time in the Wii, if they can do it for the PS3, which is technically much more difficult to program for. 69: G4 Or more specifically, what G4 has become. I don't know what it is about all these tv channels that are supposed to be devoted to a certain subject, and then somewhere along the line ends up airing nothing but sh*t that has absolutely nothing to do with it. G4 has gone the way of MTV and VH1, but in an even more bizzare way. Sure it now has it's required awful reality shows just like every tv network in existance now, like Cheaters, as well as the comedy/male culture cess pool that is The Man Show. But COPS? And now Lost and Arested Development? Yeah those are great shows and all but this is supposed to be a f*cking video game network. G4 has somehow become a lame imitation of Spike (a network that is pretty much the source of every bad trend in television) and Xplay (which I think is the only reason this piece of sh*t network is even still on the air) is somehow getting even worse (no small feat). "Ok guys, screw doing video game reviews, lets focus more on lame comedy skits, oh and lets see if we can get Morgan Webb to try and be even more annoying than she already is." You'll find more video game insight from watching old episodes of Nick Arcade. |
