79: Sega haters Sure it seems like I just covered this with my last one, but not quite. I can't stress this one enough. Sega Slayer's Anti-Sega Website - FAQ ^Some guys have way too much free time on their hands. I really don't understand all this Sega hate. Haven't Sega suffered enough? They never won any of the console battles and a lot of their systems flopped, but they were good systems with modest but good libraries of games and they still have a loyal following because *gasp* Sega fans care more about the quality of the games than how successful a console is. And that guy dosen't just hate Sega, he's f*cking obsessed with hating them. Just cruise through some of that, it's ridiculous. I love how he tries to prove that Sega sucks by pointing out some of their bad games, like some obscure Genesis games no one had even f*cking heard of and probably weren't even published by Sega. This guy is pathetic, though I obviously have too much free time on my hands as well considering I found this f*cking website in the first place, but this guy's obsession is downright absurd. Especially when he says he NEVER owned a Sega console and isn't even so much as a casual gamer. Gotta love the internet. Anyway. As a Sega fan I've done the best I can to understand this. But it seems people hate Sega for two reasons more than anything. 1. They've had some bad games, well whoopedy f*cking sh*t. I bet no other big game video game company could state that claim. 2. People have constantly bought their consoles only for them to be discontinued due to a lack of sales, they then want to attribute all of this to Sega's bad marketing, timing and pretty much inevitable failure. Which only makes you wonder how stupid they were for buying their systems anyway, if all they f*cking care about is how popular the console is with everyone else and how long it will be on the market rather than the quality of the games that were already in it's current library then they f*cking deserved it. Hating a company like Sega because of their failures is just stupid, it's not like Sega f*cking tried to flop time and time again, they tried really hard, they were just overambitious in the long run. Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo fanboys who hate on Sega for the Dreamcast dying an early death were pretty much the reason it died in the first place, they flocked to the competition because they didn't give Sega the chance to finally redeem themselves, even though they actually f*cking got it right with the Dreamcast. In the end I blame the consumers for not paying attention. And c'mon Nintendo fanboys. The virtual boy? R.O.B? The famicom disk system? 64DD? All those sh*tty NES peripherals they licensed for any smuck eager to rip off gullible children? Sega's failures are unforgivable but Nintendo can do no wrong? You keep believing that. |

Didn't all of those have sequels last generation? I would kill for the Shenmue final chapter. Weren't they planning on during a shenmue online MMORPG? |

Yeah they all got another game or two, but for all of those games that was at least 7 years ago.
And yeah I think they were. |

My favorite consoles would have to be. 1. NES 2. Genesis 3. SNES 4. N64 5. Game Boy systems, especially the GBA And people really underrate the Gamecube and Wii. As with any system that has a strong first party library but lacks third party support. So yeah, I just stick with Nintendo now. |

Oh god don't remind me.
Yeah I hope the new Sonic games will be good. When Sonic next gen was on the way the hype for that game was unbelievable, almost as much as when the first Sonic Adventure came out. Sonic next gen was such a huge disappointment, expecting some kind of ressurection only to get something even worse than before, that now people are expecting the new games to suck ass without so much as a second thought, despite knowing nothing about them. As of now there are 4 Sonic games on the way. 1. Sonic and The Black Night for the Wii, developed by Sonic Team. Apparently it will be like Secret Rings but without the on rails system, the only thing I didn't like about that game. Unfortunately this one will also have some kinda of swordplay gimmick, wtf. 2. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the DS, developed by Bioware. A Sonic RPG by Bioware? Sure, why not? 3. Sonic Unleashed for the PS3 and 360, also developed by Sonic Team. 4. Sonic Unleashed for the Wii and PS2, developed by Dimps. I'm pretty sure this will be a completely different game. I'm expecting more from this version than the PS3/360 because even though the graphics obviously won't be as good, it's being developed by Dimps, their track record is f*cking incredible, they made the Sonic Advance and Rush games, and for them to finally do a home console Sonic game has me excited. C'mon now, I have a LOT more to cover. |

I find it amazing that Sega still ignite such passion/hatred amongst the gaming community... this thread has been alot of fun to read.
re next-gen Sonic; I had a MegaDrive/Genesis growing up (secondhand, parents didn't spoil us) and remember Sonic & Knuckles going for £40 in Game (that's like $70?); also got Sonic Adventure with my Dreamcast. Now Adventure was astounding at the time, dated terribly ofcourse, but all the games I've had the displeasure of playing recently have followed the Sonic Adventure 2 formula - sacrificing playability for speed and flashiness... I just think maybe the Sonic franchise can't be translated into a classic 3D game if you attempt to retain all the elements that made it so great on the 16 bit consoles. And the character design and voice acting has been consistently terrible IMO. Any plans for a Final Fantasy/RPG-related rant BooBoo? |
