Great movie, eh? I guess some people here might find it a little insulting though...:p:

I don't think i could justify in words just how much i love the book/film. It's pretty sad that it's very much close to home! I can relate to Rob a lot, a music geek who thinks about the bigger picture too much and doesn't know anything about girls and is basically, while on the surface your average guy, is more of a misfit deep down. And he has his dis-functional friends of course.

I love the book more, it's my favourite book and it has the edge just because it's from a british point of view. It's a lot easier to imagine the story with that Camden record shop in the background and i think Rob is better suited to being english.

The film is brilliant too, they took a risk setting it in Chicago and it doesn't ruin it. Jack Black is brilliant (A COSBY SWEATER!!!) and John Cusack does a good job as Rob. One of my favourite scenes in any film is in HF when he puts on Dry The Rain by The Beta Band, it's just brilliant and puts shivers up my spine.

So yeah, as a story i quite like it :p

i too am a hi fi fan,.......even more so i'm a john cusack fan,......but i think hi fi is my fav cusack film

youre right, jack black is great,.......the cosby sweater bit gets me too,.......and the monday morning dance,......

it also cracks me up when rob's arrangeing his records autobiographically

zeta jones was great as charlie,.......she made me look all over thrift stores for an old pretenders shirt,......

The films OK I was just disappointed they Americanised the book and turned it into a RomCom.

Nick Hornby's 31 Songs book is also a must read. His entry on Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker sums up every metal kid on this forum. :laughing:

You beat me to it - High Fidelity is one of my & wife's favorites. Plus, I too am a big Cusack fan, typically the guy can do no wrong when reviewing his film career. Plus another cool thing about him - he really is a great rock fan, which likely explains the Chicago setting. Just this weekend I came across a short Liz Phair documentary & John Cusack is in it for a short 10 seconds.

I did'nt like it. May have been better if it stayed in Britain. WHERE IT BELONGS HOLLYWOOD!

I liked this film a lot...
I especially like the end where rob is making a tape for his girlfriend and the film ends with Stevie Wonder's "I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever".A fantastic song.Cheesy,but great.
There is also a deleted scene in the dvd where Rob goes to a house to buy a record collection which is very good.

well it would be great if it was set in London but then again there wouldn't be John Cusack or Jack Black
