The Office

There seems enough of a fanbase here to warrant a thread, and I'm a huge fan of the American version. Feel free to discuss the best show on television right now! I'll start:

I think The Office has constantly evolved since it first came on the air. Just look at how much it's changed from season one to season four. I really think that they hit their peak in season two with the humor being at its best and the "JAM" moments giving it the backbone it needed to carry on throughout the season. Season four has been really disappointing for me, especially since the writer's strike. Dinner Party and Did I Stutter? were truly where the show hit rock bottom. I think they made a pretty good comeback with the season finale, however. Hopefully, season five will prove to be worth the wait.

I thought Dinner Party was pretty funny. Where he puts up the beer light during the dinner.
I enjoyed this season more then 3. I hated all the new cast members

i love the office!!! jim and pam are sooo cute! and ryan....drug addiction? arrest? seemed strange...bj novak actually came and talked at my school! he is SOOO funny!!! he even threw in a "that's what she said" joke! he's an amazing writer for the show!

Dr_Rez 05-31-2008 10:32 PM

The British version is even better. Needless to say though, this one is fantastic.

There were some okay episodes near the end of the season (like most shows), but the dinner party was imo the best one.

It was Janet's spotlight. She did freakin brilliant. And that song stuck in my head for 3 weeks. It was basically about a bad relationship, and anyone who've been through one would totally get it.

I love The Office! It's so great! And this season finale was amazing. Im so psyched for next season!

idancetothevu 07-06-2008 08:39 PM

the office is the best tv show out there!

imogen24 08-29-2008 05:49 PM

Did I stutter was my least favorite, I agree. But dinner party was one of the best episodes from season 4. The setting wasn't at the familiar environment of "the office" and that might have thrown people off, but Jan and Michaels dysfunctional, and hostile relationship was shown to the fullest extent, and it was hilarious. The best episode of all, was "The Injury" when Michael burns his foot on his "George Foreman" grill, and Dwight is loopy all day because he got a concussion trying to "save" Michael. Overall, its just an excellent show.

kyleargyle 09-05-2008 01:54 PM

I think my favorite episode is the one where there's a bat in the office. Also, Creed is like the best character ever!

I actually didn't enjoy dinner party that much. It a lot more dark and i the likes of the BBC Office. However, what I am continually impressed with is how ever single season gets better and better -- a task very difficult to do.

Get excited. Season premiere Sept. 25

lol

the second half of season 4 was horrible.

sweet_nothing 11-27-2008 01:16 AM

I just finished watching the entire original British version (which I completely loved) and I'm now just starting to watch the American version but I dont like it as much as the British version. I know the American version is based off the British version but they recycled too many of the jokes.

4th Season?

American TV really knows how to run a series into the ground.

Beats Japanese Television, where shows are purposely cancled at the height of their popularity! They cancled my favorite show for this very reason:

Best to go out on a high than to drag it into the mud.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-27-2008 04:26 PM

Yeah but it makes me :(

jackhammer 11-27-2008 04:28 PM

Takeshi's Castle is the best Japanese programme. Awesome stuff. Especially with Craig Charles commentary.

Akira 11-27-2008 04:29 PM

Stepping Stones, best round ever...the faster they run, the harder their chin hits the rocks...lol.

Look at Fawlty Towers

2 series of 6 episodes and that was it.

And as a result it's 12 episodes of the finest crafted quality comedy shows of all time without a single weak episode.

The reverse happened with Steptoe And Son. The B & W sries were comedy gold and stonewall classics but when it was eked out for Colour (with a few really good exceptions) it lost it's way. The Steptoerai is a perfect example. Awful awful episode that involved Kung Fu. That's not what steptoe was about at all.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-27-2008 04:49 PM

Hard to imagine that Harry H Corbett was considered the UK answer to Marlon Brando before he did that.

jackhammer 11-27-2008 04:51 PM

They were both fine actors in their own right. That's what made it so damn good.

Seltzer 11-27-2008 05:09 PM

Mind you, Peep Show is going into its sixth season and still is as strong as ever.

I watched the US version before the British version, which probably explains why I like the US version a little better. I still thought that the British version was amazing though. Ricky Gervais is a comic genius. As for the US version, give it some time and wait until the actors get a feel for their characters. Season 1 can be pretty slow but Season 2 is just amazing. Probably one of the best seasons of any comedy in my opinion.

DearJenny 11-28-2008 12:49 PM

I'm getting season 1 and 2 when I get out of work today, I've seena few episodes but they're all scattered, I wanna watch it from the beginning.

sweet_nothing 11-28-2008 01:08 PM

Im going through the 2nd season of the US version, and I'm starting to like it but I miss the British version. Did any of the original cast ever make a cameo on the American show?

only_dancing 11-28-2008 01:35 PM

Every time I see this show I tell myself I need to watch it more, but I always forget. I love what I've seen, though. My friend has all the season's on DVD. I might borrow them.

FaSho 11-28-2008 02:52 PM

I've seen every episode of both versions, and though they're both great, the british owns.

Aren't you a Dr. Who fan? ;)

Anyways, I think it's about time they end the show. Getting very old and I don't like what most of the characters have become. Jim and Pam both annoy me now, they both act high headed as if they're smarter than everyone else, especially Jim. Ryan is flat out annoying and these dumb relationship subplots need to stop. Michael is the only character I've consistently liked throughout the series, though Dwight still has his moments. I officially hate Kevin now, too.

Is anyone else with me? Second half of season 4 and forward the show hasn't been the same. I'm getting really tired of these dumbass writers shoving new relationships down our throats constantly. Also, what happened to the "office" part of The Office? I can't remember the last time an episode actually took place in the office, rather than some outside of the office setting.

That's funny, considering your name is Tuna.

Pre-Season 5 Jim = Awesome

Post-Season 5 = high head douchebag, in a subtle way

Besides, it was more for the sake of a random reference to The Office in general rather than the specific character of Jim.

Well his attitude has to change slightly, I mean, he is married with a kid now. That's just real life **** for you.

someonecompletelyrandom 04-03-2010 11:48 AM

I think everybody (save Dwight) is as likable as they always were.

that made me giggle. 'cause, well, you know.. it's a tv show.. it's not real. haha.

In response to tuna - Jim's attitude definitely has changed but I still like his character. And yeah, Kevin has some how managed to become more retarded.

but whoa, how'd you guys like the Andy & Erin kiss -- was that not ridiculously adorable? followed by Andy's little dodoodo thing, hahaha. love it.

Yeah, I was pretty much saying that the situation they use to channel Jim and Pam's character change are actually very real life-like. Both Jim and Pam have been more serious and willing to take on more responsibility since the pregnancy. That's great character develop for you, using real-life situations in a believable setting to create the ultimate development in the characters.
