The League of Gentlemen
british sitcom/sketch comedy from the late 90's, which i've heard described as "the thinking man's little britain," which i can't attest to the accuracy of since i've never seen Little Britain. nevertheless, it's a brilliant show that blends dark humor and over-the-top absurdist comedy. i think i have jackhammer to thank for introducing me to it? in any case, it's a clear indication that i've been overlooking a lot of great british entertainment (not that you can really blame me, i don't exactly get exposed to it very often)

Haha yes, League of Gentlemen is brilliant. In fact it's one of my favourite shows... I've seen all three seasons (a fair few episodes more than once). I have LoG Live at Drury and LoG Apocalypse but I haven't watched them yet.

I remember when all Mark Gatiss was known for was writing Doctor Who fan fiction.

i tried to get some doctor who but all i could find was the remake

I've never seen this, but I will say that Little Britain is a deplorable show and horrendously overrated in Britain.
My friend is into this, I'll maybe borrow it from him. |
I don't mind Little Britain - it's very repetitive and definitely overrated, but it has its moments. It's definitely one of the worst British comedies I've seen, but that still makes it better than half of what's on TV over here.
Anyway CA, check out Black Books if you haven't already. It's not black comedy as such, but centers around a charmingly misanthropic drunkard who owns a bookshop, his bearded servant man-thing and their sex crazed impulsive female friend. It's full of biting sarcasm. |
sounds right up my alley

Black Books was brilliant.

Here's a nice name drop for you, the village it was filmed in is where I live.
It literally ****ed the place up with tourists poking fun at the locals. Eh I hate that word. |
I thought this was a thread on Robert Fripp...
