Peter Jackson's "The Dead Alive" or "Braindead" as it's known in Australia and Europe.
Greatest film of all time. Compulsively watchable. I've seen this movie upwards of a hundred times and still every joke hits and every piece of violence is so over the top it enters a realm that few films are brave enough to go to. Also see "The Story of Ricky."

His first film was the utterly brilliant Bad Taste in which he also starred. It took a long time to make and was shot at weekends due to work commitments. As a piece of low budget film making AND as a spoof it works very well. The first time I watched BAD TASTE I could not believe how good it was. Braindead (AKA DeadAlive) was next and features the best lawnmower/death scene ever! He directed Heavenly Creatures and gave Kate Winslet her first taste of stardom. I have so much respect for a guy who made a film that relied on a scene regarding Alien barf to showcase his talents. LOTR is a momentual achievement regarding his past.
