Sanford and Son was the American equivalent of my favourite sit com of all time 'Steptoe and Son'. I don't think I could bear to see what they did with the show It finished here in 1974 and I think your version was not long after that?

Sanford and Son started in January 1972 and finished up in 1977.

Well that's is an interesting little bit of info. I'll have to go to youtube and see if I can dig one up and watch it. Looks like your version was the original, it was made way before Sanford and Son.

Yeah Sanford & Son was definitely the remake of the original. I never saw it though so I can't compare the two, but usually American remakes of British sitcoms completely fail which may say something for the quality of this one.

First Steptoe and Son episode was in 1962. It's remarkable propensity for pathos still puts it head and shoulders above sitcoms still now. A remarkable sit com. I can and have sat and watched episode after episode.
