Role Models and Hamlet...like a week ago. Hamlet was Mel Gibson's best role, in my opinion. Actually, that's debatable because he did a hell of a job in Braveheart. Besides the antisemitic and racial slurrs...I like him

Fresh from my mile-long amazon wishlist;

^ 2-disc special edition.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a bank statement to weep over...

I have Return of the Living Dead on DVD but I don't think it's a 2-disk special edition. As to the others, I can't say I'm familiar with any of them, but if I see them on Netflix or on sale at one of my stores I might look at picking them up.

As for me, here's what I got today.

Body Heat (1981)

The stupid early '80's neo-noir movie I can't seem to shut up about. The only reason I really got it was because I needed something to bring my purchase up to $10 so I could use my debit card.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

Oh hell yes I'm happy to own this one on DVD. Easily one of Carpenter's best movies and one of the 1970's underrated/ ultra violent classics. Slowly but surely my cult movie collection grows.

These ones are from a few weeks back.

Mazes & Monsters (1981)

This made for TV movie is to D&D nerds what Reefer Madness is to potheads, a stupidly over-the-top scaremongering/sensationalist movie about the dangers of roleplaying games staring a very young Tom Hanks. If you've seen the Futurama movie Bender's Game then you pretty much already know the plot, a young man loses his mind and thinks he's living in a fantasy universe, but is actually just delusional and walking around the streets of New York terrifying people with his "bag of magic spells".

Coraline (2009)

I'm an unapologetic sucker for claymation movies and Laika Studios has proven to be the best to offer (they shit all over the likes of Corpse Bride (2005)). I loved Neil Gaiman's novella too, easily one of the most disturbing books aimed at children. Also just when you learn how much effort went into making this movie (for instance all the clothing the characters wear was hand knitted... with needles no longer than a dime). Great movie for all ages, with a lot more to say than the average kids movie.

Labyrinth (1986)

I figured I already had The Dark Crystal (1982) so I may as well have the other big non-Muppets related Jim Hensen movie.

I found to Casshern to be a great big beautiful, bloody mess but there are some cracking buys there. The only episode on New York Stories I like is the Scorsese section. The Allen and Coppola episodes were are a let down.

I would presume the David Lean collection has Brief Encounter? (of course it has). Such a great movie. There was a great rumour regarding Trevor Howard who said to writer Noel Coward " why can't I just **** her?" as he was a typical working class guy who modified his accent, but of course that is the whole point of the film and that animal urge bubbling in Howard's performance makes the film.

Apart from the terrible tight pants worn by Bowie, Labyrinth is a cracking film and the puppet effects more than hold their own in the CGI age.

Great call on Assault on Precinct 13. It may be a suburban Rio Bravo but it is still a tense piece of work and the soundtrack is killer too (as ever regarding Carpenter films).

Yeah, it definitely still does hold up, and it's still a great movie to put on every now and then, kind of like The Pagemaster or The Never Ending Story ,minus the Swamp of Sadness scene... stupid horse

I've actually never seen Rio Bravo but after looking up the cast and basic plot synopsis it's definitely something I'd be interested in seeing.

Brazil (1985)

On yes! I've always wanted this movie on DVD but I always thought it was too expensive. I've always heard this one is an absolute classic, so let's see if this can displace The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) as my favourite Gilliam movie.

You shouldn't be disappointed, I'd say that Brazil is Gilliam's magnum opus. Brazil isn't only my favourite Gilliam film, it's also in my top 3 comedies overall.

Been waiting many years to see it the way it was originally supposed to be seen.

Thank you, for without you... I would have to spend $200+ on a recalled DVD for the same ending (not restored and in B&W).
