Seeing the chick from 'Saved By The Bell' get all nakey is worth sitting through that movie.

Frownland gave me this rec like a million years ago, and I finally got around to it. Turns out it was another A24 flick.

ScarJoBot trolls the city streets for dudes to flay, while pasty Scottish people yell unintelligible words at her. Then the Elephant Man feels her up, she chokes on a piece of cake, and a rapist sets her on fire.

It's a Scotland thing.

I think I could actually hear the sound of the director furiously masturbating every time there was an extended shot of nothing in particular. And the tired "it's time for you to feel tension" violins didn't help. Honestly, this movie had a cool premise and a great lead, it didn't need any of that. It just sort of comes off like they didn't really know how to capitalize on what they had, and felt the need to hit all of the Artsy Movie 101 hallmark cliches.

But it's still pretty fun, and there are some nice visuals. And no, I'm not just talking about ScarJo's ass.

Plus, there were some scenes that got laughs out of me (though not nearly as many as Hereditary). Like when a husband and wife drown, leaving their baby alone back on the beach, and ScarJo is just like "lol, don't care." And then of course there's a close shot of the baby, like "Yo audience, do you feel bad yet?" And I'm like "No! Come on director, make ScarJo go back and punt the baby into the water!"

Or when a guy trying to rape her sees some skin on her back start to peel off, decides to get the **** out of there, but then for some reason comes back with a thing of gasoline and lights her up. Like, come on. That dude would be running all the way back to his shanty, praying to the Saint of Douchebags that he didn't contract whatever weird ****ing skin disease she had.

I recently watched A Time To Kill for the first time. It is an absolutely amazing film but the storyline is horrifying. I’m thankful it wasn’t very graphic at the beginning.

It’s terrible to think that sort of racism was common behaviour (and probably still is) in some places in America.

I also watched Goodfellas last night for the first time. Definitely enjoyed it but couldn’t wait on it finishing, I felt it was quite long.

You can just get that in Lost in Translation anyway.

I think this might be my favourite movie of all time. It's rare for a movie to just fully commit to visual storytelling like this does. A lot of the imagery in this is iconic and it's quite easily my favourite score for a movie (so simplistic, but it works; also goes from haunting/creepy to absolutely beautiful at times). I also really like the "candid camera" filming they used in some of the van scenes. Made it seem much more natural. Also really good use of ScarJo, plays to her strengths as an actress quite well.

Fair enough, I can respect that. It is a pretty cool movie.

*returns to masturbating to the naked scenes*
