I went on a good Terry Gilliam kick this week...
My favorite, and probably for my love of great dystopian films, was Brazil http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg followed by Adventures of Baron Munchausen (did they know how to do some sets back in '88 and Robin Williams was a pleasant surprise) http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...V1._SY317_.jpg and Life of Brian, my favorite Monty Python related work... http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg Skipped over the chance to revisit Fear and Loathing with my flatmate, because I already am too familiar with it. I intend to watch Dr. Parnassus next. I read about how they dealt with Ledger's death by working in three other actors and thought that was brilliant so... gonna give it a go, even if it was slightly panned. Every film buff should see Brazil. I call that top notch film-making on all levels, 100/100 :afro: I guess I'll just say, Munchausen, 88/100 and Life of Brian 81/100... |

The Face Of Another Adapted from the novel of the same name from one of my favourite writers (Kobo Abe), I loved nearly every minute of it. Although reading the book helped keep a lot of disjointed scenes in focus, the story was jsut as engaging, whilst the cinematography really brought out another level in the distorted reality of men. Loved the use of mirrors and glass, not noticing their use until a particularly jarring object or person interacts with them, and the overall surrealist nature in a movie trying to be as 'factual' as possible (ie the director isn't trying to show anything abstract). This falls in line with Abe's writing style, which doesn't waste words and follows a very scientific vein of thought. Recommended by it's lonesome or with the book. Probably jumps right into my top 10 |
Dance Flick
http://imovies4you.com/wp-content/up...ance-flick.jpg I went into this movie with low expectations and I was busting out laughing throughout. I think it's because I love dance movies in general so it was funny to see them made fun of. It didn't hurt that Shoshana Bush was a total hottie. I think this spoof flick was much better because it was more related to the wayans brothers than the other new spoof movies that say "two of the writers from Scary Movie" |
^those two writers are Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. Two of the worst filmmakers of all time. I live for bad movies, but bad comedies? Their work is painfully stupid.

It's shaping up to be the best trilogy ever. Star Wars <3 |
oh it most definitely is....just wait til you get to the last part....actually the ending for empire strikes back is one of my faves. I love how it ends on such a downer.
|
it's only a downer if you're rooting for the rebellion :)
http://b-moviestar.com/wp-content/up.../theothers.jpg ok so this is the first time i've watched it since i first saw it back in 2002....and i honestly thought i may not enjoy it on a second viewing (i loved the first viewing).....but it really is just a well done story |
