Yes....without actually plagiarizing in any way.....Aronofsky was able to recreate the feelings from Repulsion....Black Swan is practically a subconscious ode to Repulsion....again he in no way rips it off....but you can tell Aronofsky loves that movie
they are both basically about the same thing....watching an innocent fall into the depths of madness....but again are very different....if i had to "movie war" the two i would choose Repulsion....there are scenes from that movie that honestly belong on major museum gallery walls....just the opening credits make me cringe with horrific delight... watching Repulsion won't sway the way you look at Black Swan but it may actually make you appreciate it even more |

Well, I've been watching horror movies and practically nothing else for a while now, so I thought I'd go for something more lighthearted earlier today...
Second time watching this, and I think it's surpassed When Harry Met Sally, Punch Drunk Love and Hannah and Her Sisters as my favourite romantic movie of all time. Despite the fact that there are so many god-awful rom coms out there, and that a lot of them are predictable as anyone's business, there's a right old soft bastard in me who appreciates a really good romance. Usually if a film's soaked with academy awards, that's basically a sign telling me to stay the hell away from it. I can honestly say that this film fully deserves every accolade it got though. It's just a really uplifting, beautifully written, directed and acted film, and a show that all it takes to drive a story sometimes are compelling and thoroughly 3-dimensional characters, and not necessarily a traditional, tightly-rendered dramatic story arc. So, yeah, I love this film. |

it is not a literal ode to Repulsion....but i guarantee you will think about Repulsion when watching this....Black Swan is completely different....but again you can tell that Repulsion was an inspiration

It really lives up to the hype, you can tell every shot is thoroughly thought out by Fellini. There's so much creativity in this film. It's a story based on Fellini's own experience, it's a story of a director who has directors block and recluses into his own imagination. It's difficult to tell reality from dream/fantasy at times, but because of the flawless imagery and cinematography it really doesn't matter. |
