The last half was certainly better than the first but it's getting kinda tiring seeing Nic Cage gurning through a movie although he did have some great lines and it does have a couple of scenes 2nd cousin twice removed from the Abel Ferrara movie of the same name.

The ending however sucked and I really hope it was a cynical pastiche of Hollywood's predeliction for mawkish sentimentality but I really don't think it was.

I have never even seen a Pierce Brosnan Bond movie and now I know why. It looks horribly dated already and whilst it was mildly diverting it was forgettable tosh.

A Se7en rip off that does have some decent moments regarding cinematography and the soundtrack but I guessed the culprit before the end and it sort of caves in on itself after a relatively OK opening half hour.

wow.
a darkly disturbing psychological spiral played to perfection by portman.

Was unsure about this movie, even after hearing about the potential lesbian scene of my dreams... but then I saw Darren Aronofsky directred, and was intrigued. Requiem and Pi are both stunning, and The Wrestler is great in my book... how does his direction in Black Swan compare to these films? I'll see for myself this weekend, but curious in the mean time...

it's my favorite aronofsky film. it's paced spectacularly, has good acting, and the end is just brilliant.

I need to re-watch that. When I was watching it I felt a bit lost and just like you say that the second half is better than the first. I was a bit confused as to what was going on. I shouldn't attempt to watch it while at my computer next time maybe I was too distracted.

Game of Death

actually I just found out that the director of Bad Lieutenant was working on game of death which I watched tonight but he ended up dropping out to work on another project.

It was a pretty good watch though even at times you can tell they wanted to be a bit too artsy for being a b-movie action flick. It was great seeing Zoe Bell in another movie. Wesley Snipes is the lead actor in this one.

have you seen Repulsion?

Nope, I've seen very little Polanski.
I haven't even seen Rosemary's Baby yet.
Is it any good?

Yep, it's definitely Aronofsky's best work as an auteur.

You really need to see it. It's definitely one of my favourite ever horror movies.

Yes....without actually plagiarizing in any way.....Aronofsky was able to recreate the feelings from Repulsion....Black Swan is practically a subconscious ode to Repulsion....again he in no way rips it off....but you can tell Aronofsky loves that movie

they are both basically about the same thing....watching an innocent fall into the depths of madness....but again are very different....if i had to "movie war" the two i would choose Repulsion....there are scenes from that movie that honestly belong on major museum gallery walls....just the opening credits make me cringe with horrific delight...

watching Repulsion won't sway the way you look at Black Swan but it may actually make you appreciate it even more
