Panic Room is a decent thriller but cliched. A woman buys a house with a Panic Room which then happens to get burgled by a bunch of guys who want to get into the Panic Room? Very convenient, although it is very watchable.

My answer to your retort is- see more movies and don't believe the hype.

I used to work in Charlestown, the neighborhood of Boston that it's set in. It's chock full of yuppies, which is why I find it funny that a movie like that is set there.

They decide to steal it *because* she is moving in. They just didn't expect her to have unpacked her stuff yet...

It's still a convenient plot device and lucky that someone of Fincher's calibre directed, otherwise it would be just another thriller. I do own Panic Room BTW and like it

Panic Room was a poor idea, executed extremely well. Fincher's direction is pretty damn good, a bit heavy on the CGI at times but a few nice camera tricks here and there. It just lacked a lot. It felt really hollow and it felt quite formulamatic and predictable. Quite watchable, but a pretty poor film from an extremely talented director.

Worth a watch maybe but Oscar winner? Not a chance.
I completely agree with you. It wasn't by any means an Oscar winner.

The last film I saw:

Thoroughly enjoyable.
