It was a good movie. Kind of hard to watch at parts because Matt Damon's character slowly dragged himself into a deeper hole because of his condition in the movie. |

Terrible actor. Gut wrenching, really. |
A Serious Man
http://www.jgcinema.com/img_film/206.jpg I normally hate comedies, but I saw that this was supposed to be dark comedy so I gave it a try. The characters really worked, and actual thought was put behind the script. Even made me giggle a few times. Then when I got to the end and all of a sudden saw the tornado coming toward the kid, I realized I had absolutely no clue to what the hell this movie was all about. But once I looked it up on the internet it all clicked, but to me having to go research the ending detracted from the impact. Maybe I'm simply a dummy and you guys wouldn't have that problem. 6/10 Trainspotting http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfi...potting4it.jpg So I've heard a lot of hype about this movie. Maybe I was expecting too much. I was dissapointed. Heroin addicts acting like heroin addicts getting clean then acting like heroin addicts again then eventually self-destructing or getting clean again. It didn't excite any of my senses really, just wore me out. Wasn't terrible by any means though. 5/10 Amelie http://www.thehobosoul.com/blog/wp-c.../11/amelie.jpg Beautiful. Heard the soundtrack first and loved it so much I had to watch the film. It had everything I want. And so different. The subtitles didn't bother me a bit. Maybe a tad bit on the girly side. I mean its not really something I would sit down and watch with my old man but that doesn't change the fact that it is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I want to live in Paris. 100/10 Lonesome Dove http://www.cinemaretro.com/uploads/lonesome.jpg My brother loaned me this and told me it was the greatest thing he had ever seen. Well I have a different opinion. Pure shit. If I thought Tommy Lee Jones is an arrogant bossy loud mouth before I saw this I can't even put into words how I feel about him now. For christs sake give it a rest you old jaw bone! This movie is nothing but one one-liner after another all the way from Texas to Montana. Don't spoil a good Western collection with this turd. 0/10 |

I guess if I was supposed to feel like I was watching a moving painting by Salvador Dali and not really get anything out of it except what I wanted to, then I'd be happy. I'm just not much of a daydreamer. So that may be entirely my fault. |

By the way, Flower Child, I did watch those other two movies you recommended...the one about the young woman and her dog, and the one about the sister and brother who have to care for their aging dad. I especially liked the latter...it *was* funny and sad to see the sis and bro wrestling with their problems and insecurities and jealousies and love, and making their lives better in the end. I liked how they could see each other's problems so clearly, but didn't want to face up to their own...yet having each other helped them do so. I agree that was a very good film! The movie about the woman and dog was unusual, like a documentary almost, a short clip of time. The line that sticks with me is when the security guard expresses frustration about this catch-22: you need an address in order to get a job, and you need a job to have the money to have an address. That is an important point he makes. I don't think the woman and dog ever reunite, I'm afraid. I wish I knew! |

I'm not sure... something about this was just profoundly unsettling in a way I can't quite put my finger on right now. It was more focused and less explicit than I was expecting and I think that kind of sucker punched me or something--I feel like I watched something I shouldn't have seen, but it has more to do with the emotional content than actual carnality. That's kind of rare now--there are movies more shocking in an in-your-face kind of way, but not that many that cover this kind of territory in such an intellectually serious way. I suppose that makes it sort of an achievement and both players were f-cking amazing, but I dunno. I'm not sure I can say I liked it, exactly. |

http://www.randomhouse.com.au/system...1741669367.jpg It was a pretty good movie, but perhaps a little slow. I feel like there could have been more passion coming from the actors as it was in a war. |

Star Trek: The Motion Picture Strangely enough, I had actually never seen this movie before. I thought it was decent but not great. It seemed like they were trying to make a trippy, 2001-esque kind of a movie, and they succeeded to an extent, but I don't think that kind of a movie works out to be a very good fit for the Star Trek characters. |
Heh. "Bandwidth stealing jackass". That's great.
