This Is Elvis
1981 Directors: Malcom Leo Andrew Solt It was a pretty good movie. It was kind of hard to watch near the end though near his last performance where he forgets the words. It would've been kind of nice if they would've touched more on some certain subjects such as the satelite feed in hawaii. |

For all his pretensions, every time I watch a Tarantino movie I see some cool little touch I never saw before. I gotta give him credit for that.

The Tracy Fragments (2007)
A Canadian indie film, an adaptation of Maureen Medved's novel. I have to applaud their trying to be different. As the title suggests, it's all about the fragmented life of Tracy, so all the video montage was in fragmenting the screen. It somehow can become annoying, but then you feel that part of Tracy's chaotic life is rubbing off on you. Not a bad indie experimental film, although it brushes pretentiousness, you still feel some kind of genuineness. And Patti Smith's presence is there, so that's a plus. Not to forget another great performance by Ellen Page.

Neil Marshall's latest film (Dog Soldiers/The Descent fame) and I have to say I'm disappointed. Where do I begin? The anachronistic language for one which was purposefully done by Marshall but means the project is squarely aimed at a particular demograph and lessens his intentions. Who are we rooting for in this movie? It's obvious that we are siding with the Romans despite them decimating our original religion, language and culture and painting the 'others' (the Pictish- original Northern British natives) as utter savages with barely a redeeming feature between them. The use of CGI blood especially in the first half is shocking considering his influences and love of classic action cinema. Not enough of the support cast (Dominic West, Lee Ross) but Michael Fassbender is superb once again in a trio of films I have seen him in recently (Eden Lake, The Hunger and this film). It's a fairly decent watch but this could have been a classic. Great cinematography though.

Really wasn't sure about this one when I started watching, but I liked it more and more as it progressed. I thought it was a great concept as far as story and I really enjoyed the end. I also wanted to steal all of Jennifer Connolly's dresses for me own. She was gorgeous.
