I thought it was boring .. And Lewis' character seemed more like a caricature than a real person, I thought.

Fascinating story and lot's to admire but there are a quite a few CGI shots that don't sit well with me and considering the films timeline (late 60's onwards). I felt that they were superfluous and at odds with what the film set up to do. I would have much preferred something a lot more down to earth , shot on film and a little more grittier that complimented the films setting. Jake Gyllenhall is useless too and I am still not convinced by his acting but the films second half definitely pulled me in and I so wanted him to see justice done. Certainly worth a watch and it is understated and well acted but the films digital sheen definitely distracted me.

Moderator cut: image removed
It was decent. I started to watch it half distracted and figured it was just a step above porn with a meager plot line. Rewatched the beginning all the way through to the end and realized it was something a little better than that. But still, I finished not really feeling much for the characters, their troubles, or their relationships. 4/10 Moderator cut: image removed I'm not familiar with French film at all, and watched this as it was suggested for instant viewing on Netflix. I know this film won many awards, and supposedly Isabelle Huppert is a brilliant actress (only gathering that from comments on Netflix as I have nothing else to base it on). But I didn't care for the film at all, and I especially didn't care for her acting. I know she was supposed to come off as emotionally withdrawn, hard, and in control. But I just thought she was wooden, dead. Her acting really perturbed me. The story itself was very disturbing as I imagine was the intent, but some things didn't add up. And the end...pft. 3/10

I watched this with my friend and my brother a few days ago. MEH. It's not just a case of "I don't like basketball, so I won't like this.", it's just not a well made documentary. My friend and brother were both bored as well. 3/10 Both for the first time. Holy ****, these movies are amazing. I'm gonna get flamed for this but... I might like these more than Pulp Fiction. We shall see how they hold up on repeted viewings however, because I'm definately buying them both. 10/10 American Splendor Good but not great. I liked it overall, but won't watch it again. The scene where they're talking about Revenge of the Nerds in the car was pretty damn great though. 7/10 Last edited by DoctorSoft; 08-10-2010 at 10:45 PM. |
