Love both of them, and I'd even call Tropic Thunder one of my favorite movies. It's got a great cast, some hilarious dialogue, over-the-top action, and in a funny way it reminds me a lot of Bridge On The River Kwai, which is another of my favorite movies. For some people it'll be a generic popcorn flick, but I think it's an all-around fantastic film, and definitely not a run-of-the-mill action-comedy.

To each his own though.

Kick-Ass was the second or third best film of the year.

Inception
Shutter Island
Kick-Ass

And Tom Cruise is great... if he plays someone I'm supposed to dislike. (Magnolia)

I'd agree with trace that Tropic Thunder was pretty mediocre but I agree with Alfred that Kick Ass was excellent...

Inception
Kick Ass
Cyrus
Shutter Island
Predators
Iron Man 2
Get Him to the Greek

Although Predators and Iron Man 2 are action-movie tossups...

Shutter Island kind of left a bad taste in my mouth to be honest. It didn't really leave an impression on me, and there were a lot of flaws in the plot.

I'll once again say he was awesome in Collateral (another character you're supposed to hate, err at least at first)...

I love Shutter Island, it doesn't have holes in the plot. Just a lot of mistakes, like Leo swimming and then not getting wet.

I thought Shutter Island was brilliant, I've not enjoyed a film that much in ages, even though it obviously wasn't perfect, I just thought it was really enjoyable. A proper mindf*ck film as well, which is always good.

i think it's the type of movie that can get away with having plotholes. but i agree it sucked.

@TCS Yes, I'll give it that, it fucked my mind more than any movie I've ever seen. Took me a while to figure out what I had just spent a couple hours watching.

And to hell with all yer Tom Cruise performances because at the end of the day, it's all about this.
