The Grifters
I've been wanting to seen this movie for two decades and today I finally got around to watching it. I have to say I was kind of disappointed. I think part of the problem lies in the fact that all three main characters are supposed to be con artists and as a result I watched the movie thinking pretty much everything that was going on was a con so I never bought into the performances and didn't really care about the the characters. Instead I was waiting for a big reveal which never came. Definitely a let down.

On a positive note, both the score and the cinematography were fantastic.

I can answer that when I figure out what the f*ck I watched, but I enjoyed it. I think I get what happened, I'm just trying to piece it together. Did he have the 'lucid dream' about Sophia, and it was all going well. And then his mental state turned it into a nightmare, Sophia was gone and Julianna replaced her which enraged him, hence him needing to find out the truth behind it all. Then the last "Relax David, open your eyes.", was it all just a dream?

Really big mind f*ck, but I enjoy trippy weird films like that. Still not really sure what to FULLY make of it though, but definitely worth a watch.

I really don't understand why it underwhelmed the critics so much, can anyone shed any light on that? I heard it was a cult film so that's why I decided to watch it.

I don't think I can use any other word, it was fuckin' AWESOME!!!
Great use of the Sparks' "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us" right in the middle of the film.

I don't understand that either, I thought it was great movie. In fact I liked it even more than the original.

As for the ending...

Spoiler for Vanilla Sky:
It's been a while since I've seen it, but as best I can remember not all of it was a dream, only the later parts after the accident. In reality he killed himself and was put into cryo-sleep, to be resuscitated many years in the future when they could repair his injuries. The "open your eyes" was him being brought back to life years or decades after the events at the beginning of the movie.

I still can't figure out if it was pretentious bullshit or a thought provoking masterpiece.. I'm on the fence for the moment, because either way it definitely did entertain. I was never bored, so that gives it a few plus points.

Spoiler for Vanilla Sky:
Well, that's one way of looking at it. Everything that we saw did actually happen, it was a lucid dream gone wrong. I thought that when I watched it, but the open your eyes may have meant that it was just a dream. And none of it happened. But the open your eyes COULD mean he was awakened years after the event. Or it could mean he was dreaming until a certain point, he was in bed a lot in this movie. By himself, with Julianna, and with Sofia. If it was a dream, he had a dream inside of a dream. Where he dreamt he went to the bathroom and he turned on the light and his face was disfigured again.

Such a mindf*ck but I'm going with that what I saw happened, it was Sci-Fi.

Still not sure if it was a mindblowing masterpiece or just entertaining pretentious drivel..

I know this is considered a classic but it really did nothing for me. I just didn't care about the characters one way or another and Vivian Leigh's acting was annoying as hell.
