Into the Wild

very very good :( made me sad though

sleepy jack 10-27-2007 02:00 PM

I hope it doesn't suck, it annoys me when books are ruined like that.

Love HEAT or THE DEPARTED? Watch this. Two of France's heavyweight actors play cops who are just begging for your allegiance in this ambiguous thriller. The first fifteen minutes are seemingly disjointed and are messy, but the film really gathers momentum. one of the best films I have seen this year and arguably better than THE DEPARTED and more subtle.

Went to see Saw 4 last night. It was okay, im sorta done with Saw movies I think. They're getting less and less creative.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-28-2007 06:06 PM

I watched the first Saw on t.v last night. To be honest, I expected a bit more gore (although I missed a bit so maybe thats why). I found the acting poor in certain parts, but overall it wasn't bad.

(yeah I hadn't already seen it, give me a break)

Laces Out Dan! 10-28-2007 06:07 PM

If you want gore..see Saw 4. It definitely brings the gore.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-28-2007 06:09 PM

I didn't really want it. Just expected more. I did like the creativity of it though, which is why I watched it. Normally not my sort of thing, but I figured what the hell.

I agree on both counts. The reason NAKED LUNCH gets a low rating is because that place is 90% idiots. Breathless is completely overated. If you want to see cool new wave French cinema five years earlier try BOB LE FLAMBEUR. A brilliant film.

Sparky 10-28-2007 06:30 PM

what site would you recommend then?

i generally used imdb D=, but if you have a better one name it!

cardboard adolescent 10-28-2007 06:32 PM

I liked Breathless, not that it left me breathless or anything. I preferred Alphaville though.

imdb is good, you just have to take the user ratings with a grain of salt. i've found that generally reading user reviews and just finding the one that seems the most coherent and intelligible is the best way to rate a movie.

jackhammer 10-28-2007 06:39 PM

^^
agreed. I only use IMDB for specific info-release year, DoP etc. I just go by word of mouth, friends reccos, film magazines and a general inquisitive nature regarding movies.

adidasss 10-29-2007 03:13 AM

Usually I stay away from films that are rated less than 7, but Naked lunch was a classic...In my experience, films that have a really good rating (8 or above) turn out to be excellent films. But yeah, sometimes you get really ridiculous ratings...like Crank has a 7.something rating...that cracks me up.

I despised Breathless. It's quality film making, but Jean-Paul Belmondo spends the entire movie ripping off better actors and he just comes off as a douchebag the whole time.

holdyoualways 10-29-2007 01:59 PM

i saw the comebacks last night
it was...eh...alright, considering i like the stupid comedies
it did have matthew lawrence dancing around in his underwear though
thats always good
:D

The Darjeeling Limited.

I've been dying to see this movie, and it finally came out to theatres on friday. It was honestly one of the best films I've ever seen. Wes Anderson is one of today's greatest film makers.

Kevorkian Logic 10-29-2007 04:04 PM

Blood Diamond- It was hand wrenching. Although Leonardo's accent kept going on and off, which was a bit bothersome.

cardboard adolescent 10-29-2007 04:24 PM

Oldboy
Step Across the Border (best music related movie i've ever seen)
Ghost in the Shell
Welcome to the Dollhouse

and I'm halfway through Otto e mezzo, going to finish it now.

*Spoilers*
A good film until the usual sickly sentimental shots of a characters demise backed with saccharine coated music and stunning vistas, otherwise not bad!

DOOM.

Yes I know, but it was only £2.00 (about a dollar ish) and I don't do computer games so I thought why not? It passed two hours away. It was big stupid dumb fun and the first person shooter sequence was pretty cool.

I agree, during that scene when that certain character was dying I decided it would be a good time to start painting my nails neon green, if you get what i'm saying.

jackhammer 10-29-2007 06:46 PM

Neon Green-nice! I think we are on the same wave length here!

Sparky 10-29-2007 06:58 PM

i thought the 1st half was good. The second half it like turned into a different movie, all bam bam shoot shoot!

That movie was absolutely incredible. All 3 main actors were great, and it was not made in the typical Hollywood movie format.

I hated the short film before the movie, but as movie progressed saw its relevance and enjoyed it.

djchameleon 10-30-2007 08:35 AM

I saw 30 days of night recently and I loved it....I don't get where all the hate comes for it. It was just weird that another person wants to give their take on vampires and screw with the original idea of vampires. The only take of vampires that I enjoyed which was slightly different and more in depth was Van Helsing.

Watch NEAR DARK from 1987. A brilliant twist on vampires. Stylishly shot and a great score from Tangerine Dream.

acratertocoffin 10-30-2007 05:29 PM

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner - 8/10 dated but good.

djchameleon 11-03-2007 12:47 AM

I loved Saw 4.....the saw series can do no wrong as fas as I'm concerned.....I'll check out Near Dark....I'm liking what I've read about it so far.

American Gangster.

Denzel Washington is the greatest actor ever. <333

oh i wanna see that!
denzel is awesome

djchameleon 11-04-2007 06:00 AM

I saw American Gangster yesterday also.

Great movie but not going to be considered an epic like Goodfellas or GodFather or Scarface.

<3_BEAUTIFUL_HELL_FAIRY_<3 11-05-2007 07:12 AM

one of the double sequel movies

it was the one with the girl who had a gun for a leg.... I forgot what it was called though..... I thought besides emphasizing some of the stuff ridculiously..... it was pretty good.....

acratertocoffin 11-05-2007 09:30 AM

It was supposed to.

Re-Animator - 7/10

Classic 80's horror with a healthy dose of jet black humour.

Pit Fighter.

A b-movie that cost me the princely sum of one pound. It has guns and people getting their heads kicked in, what more do you want for a quid? A plot?

Arthur And The Invisibles.

A very enjoyable kid's movie it has to be said.

Zer0 11-09-2007 05:33 AM

Saw IV. Big load of monkey crap. Blaggh

holdyoualways 11-09-2007 08:13 AM

saw ratatouille last night
pretty cute kids movie
:)

Kevorkian Logic 11-09-2007 11:05 AM

^I dunno, I saw it this summer and it did nothing for me. But to entertain my self I turned into that person who yells out random **** like "oh, snap," The guy sitting next to me (who was my friend) ended up gagging me with his over shirt, because like the *** he is, wanted to enjoy the movie instead of mocking it.

acratertocoffin 11-09-2007 11:25 AM

The Birds 7/10
The scene where they crash down the chimney has some of the worst effects I've ever seen, and the whole scene is pointless which makes me wonder why keep it in.
