I don't think I ever cried that much watching a movie. How dare they label it as a comedy. And wow, it was the best cry in my life. I think it just all seemed true. Beginning with Adam Sandler's home movies, and footages of his first gigs, then him as a grown up depressed comedian. Watching that film, after noticing how all my favourite comedians suffered from depression from Peter Sellers to Sarah Silverman. Then his Andy Kaufman moment on the piano and then Adam Sandler sings Lennon's "Real Love". I truly did crack up. Then of course, another Lennon song, with the ending credits. It just was so familiar. That curse of the comedian, the sad clown, that somehow no one realises how unhappy he is underneath this phoney disgusting mask. Just loved it. Laughed out loud while crying. It just doesn't get better than that. P.S I do tear up at everything usually, after 8.00 AM (and now it's 10.30 AM - so that might be the reason behind my overemotional eyes)

Hmm im actually a little surprised how positive those comments are about Funny People. I might actually put that film on my to-watch list.
Absolutely brilliant. Ima huge fan of Shaun of the Dead and of course the comparisons between the two are unavoidable. I could never quite decide whether that should make me excited to watch it or apprehensive. I feel this film stands it on own though. Of course you have to compare the two as its a similar idea but this isn't simply a rip off. Brutal, violent, zombie slayings to a rock and roll soundtrack. Lots of laughs. An absolutely hilarious cameo from Bill Murray. Whats not to like? Now, i like dumb comedy films. I dont go into them expecting a work of genius or anything particularly intellectual. This however may be the dumbest dumb comedy i have seen in a long, long time. I always thought this would be terrible and a bit of a chick-flick but it actually wasnt that at all. Im not quite sure what to make of it though. It was funny in places. Uma Thurman was actually very amusing as the crazy, emotional screw up her character is but maybe overall it was actually just a bit TOO dumb. Its no secret that Ricky Gervais acting skills are somewhat limited. This role however was very suited to him. Its nothing new for him but its a typical Gervais role which helps his ability to take the lead. Greg Kinnear really helped him elevate his game as well by giving those two alot of scenes together throughout. Not an amazing rom-com by any means but quite a cute idea and enjoyable all the same i thought. |

Well he does have his signature techniques, that are so obvious I wonder how you never noticed them.
I guess the last scene in Taxi Driver is a good example of his skills. The usual dramatic use of the music, the recurring overlapping shots from opposite angles, the inserts with the mix of formats, the montages, his story telling technique, the rawness of the streets that he excels in portraying... well the list goes on.

Why are you telling me to fuck off for?
And what the fuck do you know about my opinion of Scorsese? I made you a list you fucker, and his "adeptness at portraying street life" is just a small point in it, that I won't use if I'm talking of his other movies, like No Direction Home or Shutter Island. How bout you stop asking such obvious questions if you already know the answer!

It's a board not a private chat. Get used to have many people answering your stupid questions.
