Whisper it but Van Damme over the last few years is turning into a half decent actor especially in the overpopulated B action movies. The story is a typical revenge film and is a little pedestrian at times but now that he's keeping the martial arts aspect toned down a little more it keeps the film that little bit more realistic. |

I bought this on DVD a couple of years back and loved it. I however have a strange approach to films and usually try not too watch them immediately if I really like them! I decided to re-watch this again tonight and still enjoyed it. Paul Giamitti is such a great actor. |

Sideways would have been soooo much better without Sandrah Oh.
She sucks. |

"Entertaining but forgettable movie of the year"?
|
Sometimes critics fall in love with comedies that are too f*cking low key for their own good.
Case in point, Wonder Boys. |
It's not a comedy at all. the whole film is about the 'small' moments. Maybe my affinity with the main character clouds my judgement a litle but I think the nuances in the film make it.

The only scene I vividly remember is him screwing that chick and the husband comes home and Paul Giomatti has to go back and get something.

Probably the biggest disappointment of last year. I was expecting to be wowed, all I got was an ok. 6/10 |

Bill Maher: If Santa Claus can hit every house in the world...
Steve Berg: No, we don't believe in Santa Claus. Bill Maher: Of course not, that's one man flying all around the world and dropping presents down a chimney. That's ridiculous! One man hearing everybody murmer at him at the same time, that I get. |
I may check Religulous out, even if just for Larry Charles. I must admit though I havent seen anything he's worked on on the big screen, just the small.
|
Definetly check Religulous out. I normally hate Bill Maher, but he wasn't as prick-ish as he usually is, and it was extremely funny.

I know right. Everybody loved that film. I just can't figure why. I think he's made a lot of films which are much better and deserved more praise than this one got...:\
|
are you still watching two films a day adidasss? I have alot of catching up to do on films but i'm just too distracted... once you get into one it's fine but getting to that point can be a battle.. being one of the biggest film buffs on here though you ought to do a list or a thread or something, I demandz it
|
I know what you mean, and yeah I am...I think it's starting to have an adverse effect on the experience though, I've grown more cynical and less patient I think. It's a little overwhelming too, when you see a stack of films yay high yet to be seen...Unfortunately I didn't have a good rental store for the first 24 years of my life so I'm way back on my classics...:\ So much shit to see/hear/read/experience, so little time...*le sigh*
Oh and I share most of my film thoughts on another site, dedicated to film mostly...;) |
gah, another forum? Ye unfaithful...
Well I've got the African Queen lined up on video and Burn After Reading on DVD to watch with someone later, hopefully it'll go down well, they liked the Big Lebowski so they'll like this I think. Where do you stand on streaming movies online? I used to think it was all I needed to begin my life as a hermit but they're a bit sh*t really, you are making a huge compromise (especially if you have the (Loudest Computer Ventilation Fan in the World) |
Naw mate, I download full DVDs mostly, divx when I'm not sure of the quality of the film (soz I don't waste bandwidth). I never watch films on the computer...
|
I only watch films on the computer that are out now so I don't have to pay $10.50 at the theatre but I buy the DVD's when they come out. I haven't started downloading the movies yet.

Completley stunning, even the cheesy scenes weren't that bad. 10/10 |

The action scenes weren't corny or too over the top, relatively believable (especially in comparison to a lot of other action movies/chase scenes etc etc) |

It seems like this movie got a load of bad reviews when it came out. I personally enjoyed it. The story was meh, but I understand it was supposed to be a dark comedy and it pulled it off well, IMO. The Cusack siblings usually have me laughing, and they didn't disappoint me this time. And I thought Hillary Duff actually did a decent job with the acting (but not the accent...good lord). I'd give it a 7/10. |
^ Does Hillary Duff put a scorpion down her pants in this movie?
|
Yep, that would be the movie.

I completely loved this movie when I was younger, and now I rememeber why. Its ****ing good. |

Much was made of Danny Boyle's gritty realism (again) but this of course just translates as shakey cameras and on-location shooting, so I don't understand what all the fuss was about. I won't bother watching this again for a few years. Apologies in advance to anyone who is offended by me not sharing their opinion! |

Manhattan is awesome. Have you see Annie Hall? that film is genius.
|
Annie Hall is probably one of my favorite movies but I had a few problems with Manhattan. First of all, I despised the relationship between Allen and Hemingway. I pretty much just didn't like Hemingway's character at all. I thought Allen and Keaton should have stayed together, it was much more believable. So I guess you could say what ruined it for me was like the last half hour. He shouldn't have went back to the little girl.
I didn't hate it. It was still funny and some scenes were really beautiful to watch but it just didn't do too much for me. |
