Watched and enjoyed Lords of Chaos

Has that been **** on here yet?

it's pretty god damn hilarious

Bug

Always been a huge fan but I forgot just how ****ing intense Michael Shannon is in this movie. Holy ****. Probably my favourite performance ever tbh.

Just checked out Wilde (1997) starring Stephen Fry as Oscar Wilde. I've been compared to him in my style and phraseology countless times but had never familiarized myself with his work.

This was my start. And I adore Stephen Fry. He seemed absolutely perfect for the part.

I am also enjoying signed hardcover first editions of Fry's Mythos and Heroes with Stephen's recitations in audiobook form as accompaniment. I had no formal education in the Greek myths as a young man and I can't think of a better introduction than by Fry.

It's on Hulu.

I know the black metal fans hated it because it ruins the mystique by portraying them as the edge lord dude bros they were. I liked it though.

Mondo Bungle 07-16-2019 02:06 AM

I highly doubt that's how it was. They made Varg out to be some dumbass poser (literally the biggest in history) who didn't know **** even though he'd already been in the scene for years. I really don't think he was ****ing everything that moved.

I don't know. Didn't seem Varg didn't know **** just seemed like he was desperate to fit in. In movie Varg's shoes I'd completely own the Scorpions fandom to let them know idgaf. That insecure competitive machismo bull**** is something I see a lot irl. I know a guy that ****s like that too.

Mondo Bungle 07-16-2019 11:34 PM

I mean I don't know either, but I do know that the actual Varg was at least articulate about the retarded **** he believed, that character was a bumbling idiot.

I also think they made out Euronymous to be way too nice (at least towards the end of the movie).

I still enjoyed it, thought it was pretty funny, and obviously I wasn't there, but I still feel it to be more parody than biopic.

Spoiler for Spoilers:
IDK if this is a spoiler since it doesn't have much importance to the plot (on a surface level), but it really bothered me when dude forgot her birthday and she apologized for not reminding him. I really want to watch the movie again to catch all the little things like that. She was stuck in a situation where she needed emotional support for the extreme trauma she experienced and the only people in her life treated her and her problems like a burden and it obviously wore off on her because she apologized every time he ****ed up.

I watched the new Spiderman movie (2019). I recommend the movie to people of all ages... In that movie, Spiderman faces his toughest opponent yet - Mysterio. Mysterio can turn everything into an illusion. No question about it, Mysterio is a very dangerous enemy. If you haven't seen the new Spiderman movie yet, now would be the perfect time to do so...

What local high school newspaper did you find this in?

The Batlord 07-25-2019 05:42 PM

Dog Soldiers is a fun as hell werewolf movie with pacing that's a notch too fast so many of the non-main characters are just sort of there, the tension is minimal, and you find yourself wondering how all of these people in the first half hour found themselves in this situation while maintaining the composure of people already an hour into a werewolf movie. The movie knowing what it is (werewolves vs. soldiers) kinda gets in the way of the movie setting itself up but hey the characters who do get developed are great, you get all the action you were hoping for and then some so it's a solid 6.5/10 and the delightfully gooey werewolf carnage knocks it up to a high 7.

Now onto Howl from 2015. A werewolf movie about a train stopped in the middle of nowhere that I guess is about being a customer service drone who hates their job until people realize how awesome you are at dealing with werewolves.

The Lost City of Z

Charlie Hunnam can't act his way out of a see through bag. Robert Pattinson is a f*cking underrated actor and a half. This was a bit of a chore to get through as the pacing and editing was terrible but that imagery and location photography were excellent. They filmed this sh*t in a reall ass jungle. That's cool. The story was okay and I read that they took some liberties with how it actually panned out but it's definitely a nice movie if you like long adventure films. Seriously though, that Hunnam kid sucks.

debaserr 07-25-2019 07:08 PM

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

Standard Tarantino fare, if a bit slow paced. There are a lot of driving scenes to set the mood. No real plot to speak of, just snapshots of an earlier time. Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular.

The Batlord 07-25-2019 07:34 PM

QUICK!!! AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON OR THE HOWLING?!?!?! I've watched two solid werewolf movies already but I feel like it's time to watch the definitive werewolf movie and I need immediate assistance.

Go classic with AW in L.

Shut up, bitch.

Don't chill the f*ck out, Bats. Keep calling Chris a bitch.

Did I win though? Are you watching AW in L? Are you watching AW in L with pumping out a L from your PP like you said you would?

Frownland 07-25-2019 08:40 PM

Have you seen Jumanji? There's a part where one person becomes a monkey and that's basically the same thing.

I don't like how Samoan the Rock is.

Frownland 07-25-2019 08:47 PM

I'm impressed with your geology skills, I didn't even realize that there were rocks in the movie.

Exo 07-25-2019 08:51 PM

Yeah. There's a whole bunch of rocks but I only like the thin mint ones.

Quote:

You did. I am. I watched this movie when I was a little kid cause my mother was irresponsible and let me watch R-rated movies all the time (I only watched part of Clerks cause she didn't like it) and all the random scenes I could remember were in fact exactly like I remember. Considering how many random scenes I seem to remember it's almost like nostalgia but without enough familiarity to qualify.

I like how it doesn't even have a tone. Like, "Here's actors saying lines. Weird, huh?"

This might be something:

Growing up with her voice all over the radio and TV, I never really paid much attention to how talented she is/was. It was always just BG noise to me, since it was constantly smushed into everyones ear holes at all hours of the day and night. Time for a trip down the old nostalgia hole and see what I shut my mind out to during those years.

Had to pass out with thirty minutes left in the movie but having finished it I'd say I came into it with too high expectations and it's not really a movie to have high expectations of. I think I should take time out to watch it again in the near future knowing that it isn't some masterpiece but just a dumb piece of fun with some killer horror set pieces thrown in to make the whole thing surreal. Seems a good drunk movie. Honestly I think American Werewolf in London would have been an absolutely perfect short film that ended with both characters at the beginning getting eaten on the moor. Everything after that was some degree of not as engaging.

The Batlord 07-26-2019 10:51 PM

Saw a dude in The Howling who reminded me of OH so I memed him.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Slow burn, still not sure if the payoff was sufficient. Certainly met expectations but did not exceed them. Worth the watch for the lead's performances alone and damn Tarantino's 60s aesthetics are satisfying. I feel robbed of the deleted scenes/cut roles I've read about tbh, I feel like the film could have been 5 hours long and I would have appreciated getting the full story. Fingers crossed for a director's cut I guess?? Idk it was very funny and great in a lot of ways but I don't want to spoil anything so I'll keep it vague.

Jackie Brown is still #1.

debaserr 07-29-2019 05:01 PM

Jackie Brown would've been incredible if they had cut 30 minutes.

Deaa 07-29-2019 05:02 PM

Jackie Brown as the best Tarantino film is such a Chad opinion.

The Beach Bum

"Last night
when I went to bed in Havana,
I was thinking about you.
I got up about 4:00am
and I had to take a piss, as guys do,
and I looked down at my dick,
and I had such affection
in my heart when I did,
knowing that it had been
inside you twice today.
It made me feel beautiful."
