I will always forgive a movie regarding it's politics or points of view if it's an older film. Movies are much more easy to critique especially if they are genre specific and rely on effects that are outdated a year or two later. The secret is to view without prejudice and enjoy on it's own level.

While we're on the subject of Alien I heard a great story about it on the commentary on one of my Dr Who DVDs.
When the film was premiered in London, Tom Baker (The current Doctor at the time) was invited along to it with a couple of the actors who were in the Dr Who episode they were currently filming at the time. Apparently during the part of the movie where they're discussing going down into the bowels of the ship to kill the alien Baker shouts out at the top of his voice 'Why don't you all go down there and bore it to death.' Quite a number of people gave him a round of applause.

The latest movie I have seen was New Moon. I went the day it came out with my Boyfriend but it wasn't as great as everyone raved. I didn't see what the big deal was and I could of waited to see it till it came out on DVD. I really want to see Alice in Wonderland.

I don't have much interest in seeing the new Alice In Wonderland but it made me nostalgic for this, so I downloaded it. The Jabberwocky used to give me nightmares as a child!

didn't think a movie with mostly people standing around talking could be so good. i kinda wish Mr. Blue was in this a bit more, you only see him for less than a minute and then he's out of it. man, can't believe i put off watching something like this for so long. only thing i'm kicking myself for now is that i already knew the twist in the movie before watching it, so it spoiled some of the stuff for me.

Stalker (1979) Well in my usual gaming slump, I've decided to boot up Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl again so I can get halfway through it, then get bored and quit it like I've done 3 times now. This is the movie that inspired the game and I have to say it was pretty interesting. The cinematography for it is easily some of the best that I've ever seen and the longer than average shots didn't lose my interest. It was a little bit long, clocking in at 2 and a half hours, but it was one of those movies that got into my skull and I was left thinking about it for the rest of the day. Basically the movie is about a man who guides two other men into the Zone, an uninhabited area where some kind of disaster took place and is full of dangers. The main character, the Stalker, is a kind of guide, who leads the two other men who are in search of The Room where it's said those who enter receive their innermost wish. Armed only with cloth tied to nuts, the three men brave the Zone and discuss some primary elements of philosophy. A lot of people who disappointed by the movie for its lack of clear danger, however the idea of unseen danger looming over every step the characters take was far more eerie than had their been some kind of physical antagonist. The movie was also made in the Soviet Union in 1979 with a very meager budget so cool anomaly special effects were out of the question. If you like sparse dialogue, symbolism, amazing cinematography, and can sit still for 2 1/2 hours then I would definitely recommend this film. |
