the script is a flaw
|
No complaints on the script from me
|
it's great otherwise

Why is it that bending over and coughing is the movie/TV shorthand for throwing up? I've thrown up many a time and one thing I generally don't do during is cough. I'm not even sure how this became a thing as somebody would have had to cough and then vomit for anybody to think that it would be a good replacement for actual vomiting. Who was this person? Why did they cough and then vomit? Man, I don't know.

I just watched "The Slams" lol, pretty entertaining 70's prison movie with the one and only Jim Brown. Pretty brutal movie too, one guy gets his limbs ripped apart in a cement truck (he had it coming though) and another guy had this liquid metal stuff poured all over his face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeWvvGdJ6I8 Definitely not as cheesy as the trailer makes it seem, the trailer makes it look like any other blaxpotation film. Some action movies I can find quite boring but this one gets my recommendation. |
SPOILER ALERT For The Film 'Upgrade'
Spoiler for SPOILER ALERT:

Fear and Loathing. Never a better second-hand high I've gotten through a TV screen.
On a lighter note I think I want to learn more about Hunter S. Thompson. |
|
^Probably better than the movie I just finished watching
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....lL._SY679_.jpg Gave it a shot just because. Wasn't worth it. It's kind of like Atomic Blonde, only a bit better put together but still dull and a pain to get through. It just dawned on me that I don't think I've ever liked one single spy movie. |
When I look at that pic all I think is, Jennifer Lawrence starring Jennifer Lawrence as Jennifer Lawrence.
|
She kinda plays the same role in every movie. Only one that I've seen so far where she was a bit more fun and less pouty and stone faced was American Hustle.
|
Which is weird cause she's fun in interviews.
|
She was great in Winter's Bone.
|
Uhhh and mother! which I was talking about just one page ago
|
I would hate her IRL. Alpha beotch always calling people out.

Phantom Thread (2017)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...tom_Thread.png Finally saw this. Vicky Krieps is amazing and easily outshines DDL himself. All around masterful filmmaking and a great ending. Cure (1997) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...Cureposter.jpg Watched it for the third time after more than five years. Still one of my favourite movies and and one of the best horror movies ever. Creepy, mindblowing masterpiece. |
Tonight I watched OUT FOR JUSTICE (1991) on VHS :)

yeah it's ****ed. Didn't really care too much for it regardless 2.5/5 https://pm1.narvii.com/6530/d18744e5...a27ef04_hq.jpg everything I'm all about but the creature in Basket Case is just so hilariously extreme you can't push it aside 4/5 https://www.movieposter.com/posters/...n/21/b70-10923 love is doomed. I didn't cry though 3.5/5 |

"The 12th Man" is based on the true story of a failed Nazi sabotage attempt in occupied Norway during the end of march in 1943. One man escaped and literally walked across Norway to get to Sweden while being pursued by the Gestapo, recieving help from the locals. So what does it have? : 1.) Norwegians speaking Norwegian and Germans speaking German. Nice to watch a decent war film where everyone is actually speaking in their country's language. Although, interestlingly, Jonathen Rhys Mayers is in it (the guy who played Henry the VIII in "The Tudors") as the head of the Gestapo ...speaking..you guessed it..German. Yes, I like American war films..just nice to see a bit more realism when it comes to the language department. 2.) Snow Caves 3.) An exciting reindeer chase. 4.) Home surgery of frostbite..eek. 5.) Quisling. A term you don't really hear much outside of Norwegian war films. Actually, you never hear it. It's a very good film. Two thumbs and a toe up. |

Added 150 must-see b-movies and cult films to my introduction to pop culture list. And tonight I caught up a bit with the world of animated film and watched The Iron Giant.
I definitely see why it was universally acclaimed. |

Finally watched 'mother!' last night.
****ing brilliant in every way. Just a mind blowing experience. |
I actually watched that last week and thought it was pretty crap. Not that anyone would be surprised that I didn't like it
Watched Arrival yesterday, and despite having had a low view of Denis Villeneuve's movies so far, I liked this one fairly much. A bit too visually plain and narratively surface level for such an interesting concept, but I still think it was enjoyable. Not sure it's gonna stand up well to repeat viewings, as a big part of the appeal was simply figuring out where the plot was going. |

Realized I had the complete film scores of John Carpenter on both vinyl and digital lossless, as well as both volumes of his Lost Themes in both formats... but had only seen three of his films.
I saw Escape From NY and LA and The Thing, and really liked his style so I picked up the complete filmography including the Masters of Horror episodes he produced. I plan to view them chronologically so last night I watched Dark Star. This should be fun. https://i.imgur.com/d80tLCkl.jpg |

*screeching static sounds* "It's by one of those British new wave groups." Hilarious film from the beloved duo from SCTV. |
I just saw that Netflix movie Next Gen. It wasn't too bad. Got a lot of flashbacks to Big Hero 6, although I think that these guys did a better job with the concept/story. They were also able to take a lot of liberties and push boundaries cause apparently Netflix has no standards & practice department so essentially they can "air" whatever they please. Not a bad film from a studio that used to make rage comics.

I last watched FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981) on VHS :)

I've been sick the past two days so I was able to find time in what seems like a year or two to sit down and watch a film or two.
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....jL._SY606_.jpg The Killing of a Sacred Deer I'm a big fan of Yorgos Lanthimos. Loved Dogtooth and The Lobster and I loved this. I didn't think the dude could get darker but this was certainly his darkest film yet. The story is based on the ancient Greek play Iphigenia at Aulis by Euripides but was presented with the same kind of surreal and strange pacing and dialogue that Lanthimos is famous for. Great acting by Farrell and Barry Keoghan. http://writetoreel.com/wp-content/up...vie-review.jpg Blade Runner 2049 Finally had the time to see this. Villeneuve is my favorite working director and I'm kicking myself for not trying to see this in the theater hard enough. Great acting from all involved. Ana de Armas stood out to me besides being one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen holy sh*t. Gosling was made for the role. Made me understand the original more. Beautifully shot. I love Roger Deakins. Fantastic film. |
