Watching these few Nightmare on Elm Street sequels has definetly sparked my interest in other horror sequels. I've been avoiding sequels in the big horror franchises basically because my few encounters with them have been rather horrible. The sixth Friday the 13th movie was awful. Critters 4, although that series was never really awesome, was a bore. Hellraiser 3 was a disappointment ..

These are some of the films that made me generally suspicious towards sequels. Now I'm thinking there might be something worth checking out in these series and others after all. For example, I haven't seen any sequels in the Halloween, exorcist or chainsaw massacre series.

Hellraiser 3 is definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen. The only horror sequel I personally remember being better than the first instalment would've been Aliens, which of course isn't really an out-and-out horror flick. I liked Halloween H20 as well, although it wasn't really a patch on the original. Gotta say that I'm curious about the rest of the Nightmare On Elm Street series after reading all these posts though. I've only ever seen the first one and Freddy vs Jason (which was pretty dumb but good fun all the same).

So true about Hellraiser III. I quite like the first two films actually, they're wonderfully twisted and very creative. The third was downright boring and if I understand correctly, they turned the whole franchise into a slasher series after that. The Hellraiser setting with the cenobites and so on have or had great potential. I can't say myself if what I wrote about the later sequels is actually true, but if yes, I'll say turning Pinhead and his crew into generic slaher villains seems depressingly destructive to the whole franchise.

I too have actually seen Freddy vs. Jason although I regard it perhaps more as a spin-off. If you're curious about the Nightmare series, the third and fourth were not exactly brilliant, but definetly worth the watch :) They have entertainment value which is basically what I'm after.

Might take a little while before I get to it .. The reason I saw these 3 so quickly is my GF was away for much of the weekend. She doesn't like these kind of films, so I'm opportunistic when she's gone. :p:

The coming week, I'm gonna check out the classic series "Tales from the Crypt". It never aired on a channel we ever had, but I hear (read) that it's great and I loved the sort of movies that were made up of several horror stories when I was a teenager, for example Deadtime Stories (entertaining crap).

I went and saw the new Alice in Wonderland. I honestly thought I was going to HATE it. But I didn't at all. I actually kind of loved it.

I was huge fan of Tales from the Crypt when I was growing up. The episodes can be pretty hit-or-miss but at its best it's very good. One word of warning: it was on for a long time and really only the first couple of seasons were good. So make sure you check out the earliest episodes first.

On the subject of good horror movie sequels, I'm a pretty big fan of the Phantasm franchise and I'd actually go as far as saying the second movie is better than the first.

The last two nights I watched Moon and Memento, and I tried watching Syriana. Syriana was slow, boring, and confusing in a bad way. Sure, Moon was slow, but in a really interesting and fleeting way. Syriana just sucked. But the best of the bunch was easily Memento, which I wouldn't call one of the all-time greats but an excellent film...

I saw the first Phantasm, but I'd sort of forgotten about it. What I remember is that it was a weird film. There's the tall guy turning corpses into his little dwarf slaves, pretty strange. I don't think I found it particularly entertaining, but I'll at least read up on the second one and see if it appeals. :)

The first Phantasm is awful and i'm not really into the endless sequels of Horror films either. I have the set of Nightmare On Elm Street films and they have their moments but don't really do much for me even on a trashy level that I like in movies. Wes Craven's new Nightmare however is a fantastic film and very underrated

This was surprisingly good and trippy movie.

Saw Moon and did I love it. One of the best movies I've seen in a while. I don't know why because, even though I was looking forward to seeing it, my expectations weren't THAT high. Great movie though, it honestly blew me away.
