I have to say I was a little disappointed after watching this last night. I was neither scared nor entertained. There were a few parts of the movie which got my heart beating, but other than that it was a waste of 87 minutes. The end scene was probably the best part of the movie, but some of the scenes reminded me of other movies, specifically when Micah lifts the camera to pan around the attic, right out of [REC]. *Spoilers* The movie certainly did have some deeper meanings to it, namely that Micah (the boyfriend) was the antagonist of the movie and NOT the supposed demon haunting Katie. The psychic who visits them early in the movie states that whatever entity it is, it's feeding off negative energy and as the movie progresses you see how controlling and abusive Micah and Katie's relationship is. Micah's continued attempts at establishing himself as the dominant one only exacerbate the entity's behavior. Not only that, I have a sneaking suspicion the reason he waits so long to "allow" Katie to call the demonologist that the psychic recommends is because they would be able to recognize Micah as the cause of the haunting. Bad movie but had some interesting afterthoughts. |

I watched the theatrical ending where...
SPOILER Katie becomes possessed again and stares at Micah while he's sleeping for several hours. Finally she goes downstairs and begins to scream, alerting Micah who runs downstairs and some kind of struggle ensues. Then heavy footsteps, Micah's body gets hurled at the camera. I did watch the other two endings online, the one where Katie commits suicide and when the cops shoot Katie after being startled by a slamming door. |

Paranormal activity spoiler
In the one I saw, Katie kills Micah with a knife and then just hugs her knees until the police finds her. Possibly they shot her, can't remember. Not sure what that does to your hypothesis about the meaning of the film. All the different endings makes me feel a bit like they didn't really have a defined direction with the movie at all which I don't actually like very much.

Watched Requiem for a Dream tonight. It was a pretty good movie. Makes me glad that i don't do drugs. It was one of those movies that from beginning to end you just don't feel right. Kinda depressing especially the ending. I would recommend it to anyone.

Spoiler
Out of the three endings I saw, I liked the one where she returns to the bedroom after the confrontation downstairs with blood on her and a chef's knife. She then slits her own throat, out of grief perhaps? The ending you describe was my second favourite because it shows her visibly upset with the events that had transpired and it has a more psychological effect that the demonic entity had rather than physically inhabiting her body to kill Micah. I liked the idea that the entity exacerbated budding feelings of contempt that Katie was feeling towards Micah and that it was it's suggestion that Katie kill Micah but it wasn't physically controlling Katie to do so. Also the ending with Katie committing suicide and being shot at by the cops is kind of foreshadowed at the beginning of the movie when Micah has the knife and does the mock throat cutting. |
