God I fucking hate Cloverfield. Nobody I know hates it with as much passion as I do..... but it's just so pointless, in a badly directed boring way.
Death At A Funeral is also getting an American Remake... here's the trailer: is there anything we can't rape to pieces? |

it's not cloverfield i object to per se, that fulfils it's objective of being a big dumb monster movie and selling lots of DVDs; but to give it's director the chance to mangle a (mostly) subdued and atmospheric film like LTROI will no doubt prove to be a mistake. Hollywood is so patronizing to the American audiences it's ridiculous, the cult popularity of LTROI speaks for itself. But then 'cult' is not exactly blockbusting opening weekend sales is it?

I was just sort of going on a tirade about how I hate Cloverfield but I agree with your (slightly more sophisticated) point as well. Hollywood clearly knows what it's doing because it'll most likely make a lot of money but ****ing ****, if you have to make a remake at least pick a director mildly suited to that task.
I didn't even like the original that much... but I accidentally saw the English dubbed version which probably subtracted from the mood about 2000%. |

I liked Cloverfield actually, Godzilla meets Blair Witch was a pretty great concept and I thought it was done well, but yeah, of course it's being made into a gimmick now, horror movies that emulate the home movie/documentary visual style is a big trend right now.
I knew that. Last edited by boo boo; 02-27-2010 at 05:04 PM. |

I get the whole don't judge a book by its cover thing, but my god. I don't think I'd ever willingly pay for a movie called 'The Crazies,' knowing they were serious.

In the time since I've seen this it's become my favorite movie, atm. I think I've gone to bed with this on about 37 nights in a row now.
