Talk To Her and All About My Mother are fantastic films from Almodovar. I really can't choose between the two.

Elastic Man 01-24-2009 03:24 PM

Ohh I haven't seen 'Talk to Her', I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the recommendation jackhammer. And agreed that 'All About My Mother' is a brilliant film. Not sure about a favourite though, there are so many great films to choose from!

Looks like Ash from Army of Darkness, just y'know not nearly as cool.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...cialPoster.jpgIt was better then it was reviewed to be. I liked it a lot more then the last three Saw movies.

Solid movie with a great performance by Langella. I don't think it really deserved the best picture nomination, but it was still a good film.

This is one of the best films I've seen this year. It's right up there with Slumdog, and I don't understand why it didn't atleast get the nomination from the Academy. And it is absolutely unbelievable as to how Di Caprio didn't get a nod for this performance, which was the best I've seen this year (I still haven't see Sean Penn yet though). It doesn't make any sense how they can give Brad Pitt the nomination for a completely flat performance and not even acknowledge Leo. I could go on and on about how much this upsets me....

Great movie.

Arya Stark 01-24-2009 09:36 PM

I just saw that Mall Cop movie.

I personally wasn't fond of it.

FaSho 01-24-2009 09:50 PM

It was terrible.

simplephysics 01-24-2009 09:59 PM

I just saw The Devil and Daniel Johnston, and it broke my heart.

it is extremely depressing. I can't believe his mates thought it'd be a good idea to let a sensitive guy with shaky mental health loose at a Butthole Surfers gig... on acid. And then came the helicopter incident... And now he's 50-year-old man-child living in his parent's bungalow. :(

music's good though

Saw that a few weeks back as well. It was pretty depressing, but also a very intriguing look at his life. I did not know much about him going into the film.

On a lighter note, I recently saw:

I haven't seen The Reader, yet I have a very high sense of confidence that it sucks balls.

pourmeanother 01-25-2009 05:16 AM

It's a very informative documentary lol. Plus, it's free (in 9 parts) on youtube... what more could you ask for?

I know it's lame, but I cry during the last 20 min of this movie every time I watch it.

 no worries I do too actually

adidasss 01-25-2009 03:51 PM

If I wasn't so dead inside, I would too...that music is just overwhelming...(I'm referring to Mount Doom scenes, the whole marriage shit was awful)...

Akira 01-25-2009 04:00 PM

Same. When you watch them all in one sitting it's hard to not get that involved, even when you tell yourself you're not going to.

Ziah 01-25-2009 04:04 PM

Last film seen on PC: Lost in Translation (love this film!)

Last film seen at the pictures: The Dark Knight

^^^ wtf happened to Christina Ricci, she used to be the girl-next-door.

also weren't B-movies relegated to B-movie status in the first place because they were low-budget suck-a-thons? Oh sorry I forgot everything's ironic now

Probably the best film Van Damme is ever gonna star in, a genuinely original, funny and dynamic deconstruction of his action star persona. I gained so much respect for him after seeing it. There's a scene in the middle where he has one of the most heartbreaking displays of candor I've ever seen on film. Had I seen it in the theater, I'm sure you couldn't hear a pin drop. Worth seeing for that alone. I had some problems with the ending and there were some minor editing inefficiencies, but it's still one of the best films of 2008. - 8/10

Revolutionary road - 7/10

Wendy and Lucy - 7/10

Cool hand Luke - 8/10

I saw Vicky Christina Barcelona with my girlfriend.
I thought it was great, but apparently she hates woody allen films.

And I saw Valkyrie with some buddies
we had the cinema to ourselves
the first half was predictably unintentionally hilarious
but the second half was actually quite engaging.

jackhammer 01-26-2009 03:16 AM

I so want to see JCVD as most people know he's a guilty pleasure of mine.

adidasss 01-26-2009 03:36 AM

Yeah, I wonder how an actual fan will react to it. I always thought he was a joke. His films still are but at least I now respect him as a man. Plus, he can actually act in French. His performance was stellar. I shit you not.

I've been wanting to see Valkyrie...

But I hate predictable movies.

He is actually very good in Until Death in which he played a man just coming out of a coma. He surprised me a lot. He's quite an intelligent guy. He also studied Ballet. He is Belgian though-unless he speaks French in the film?

adidasss 01-26-2009 07:59 AM

Half of Belgians speak French...;)

And the rest.

You shouldn't be too harsh on the Brummie...they're still learning to speak English. ;)

cardboard adolescent 01-26-2009 02:23 PM

You mean Flemish! And most Belgians that speak Flemish also speak French. Not to mention English...

jackhammer 01-26-2009 02:34 PM

Flemish is the colloquial form for Belgian dutch, anyhow all I meant was that i was surprised his language is French, I just thought it would have been Dutch. Ive only ever heard his garbled English :D

By Arnofsky... very, very cool movie. I think Saw ripped off the basis of it sort of. Very cool film though.

love that one, it's a late-night cable TV backwater-channel classic! (Except it's good)

My favourite trap was the acid spray. hee hee

Not arnofsky and its Aronofsky but I'm not here to take the michael. It's a very good film considering it's low budget. The directors folow up was cypher which despite a great premise, fell on it's arse :(

yes I hired that on DVD ages ago, loved it, and despite being wet at the prospect of catching it on film four years later it was a bit pants... Was it the effects? The endless twists? Or was Lucy Liu just too hot?
