Tetsuo as in Tetsuo: The Iron Man

The Batlord 10-20-2017 04:41 PM

Got Gerald's Way and Tetsuo downloading and am not even looking at what they're about. So I'll see what's good.

The Batlord 10-20-2017 05:00 PM

To be perfectly honest I think the original Alien might actually be in a way what I'm truly looking for. A group of unsuspecting people who morally earned nothing of what was about to happen to them and were consumed by a cosmic horror that they could never possibly understand that clearly had a history that was never explained but still all-consuming.

You know what **** all of you I think I'm just gonna watch Alien. There's really no way to go wrong with that.

You know, that Lovecraftian sort of horror that isn't so much sci fi but kind of is sci fi just cause it's about how the universe is out to get you, not so much cause it's out to get you but because it's so overwhelming that it can't help but be out to get you cause you're so insignificant? Or anything along those lines that makes you feel like you don't matter in the face of the overwhelming evil on display. You can interpret that liberally since I imagine the concept isn't really explored that much and I just want whatever I can get. Basically if the horror isn't really so much out to get you as you're just in its way I'll be happy.

But god damn when with Guillermo Del Toro make that At the Mountains of Madness movie already?

in terms of any of that these might be a bunch of shots in the dark but here are some sick movies regardless that may or may not be applicable
you should watch these

The Color Out of Space (2010) - IMDb
Five Million Years to Earth (1967) - IMDb

The Batlord 10-20-2017 05:39 PM

Is The Color Out of Space actually any good or is it just a ****ty Lovecraft adaptation?

The Batlord 10-20-2017 06:03 PM

Seriously though, is there a horror movie out there that's more Lovecraftian than Alien? They wake up for no apparent reason but to explore an alien world that they have no idea of, then they explore it and it's completely bizarre and indefinable except that it's just indefinable and has some **** that's omfg?! Then a lifeform beyond their comprehension wrecks their absolute **** and they can't even deal with it, all die but one person who Jesus ****ing Christ she may or may not have lost her mind? Forget about the other movies. Alien is ****ing Lovecraft.

Already awesome. More for the Twilight Zone moral **** than the Lovecraft ****, but ****ing awesome anyway. I know it was inspired by Lovecraft and is about as Lovecraft as you're going to get besides Alien, but I'd call Alien more Lovecraft tbh. And either way that's basically two movies that are doing what I'm looking for. I'm probably gonna end up rewatching it soon.

The Hitch-Hiker (1953)

One of my favorite noir films by one of my favorite actresses and directors, Ida Lupino. I think this was also the first one directed by a woman. The movie was based on a real-life psychopathic murderer named Billy Cook but the story was changed to appease the film censors of that time. Good acting, directing, and emotional tension running throughout the movie, combined with desolate scenery, make this one a worthy addition to any film noir list.

Told you.
Should I mention Event Horizon?
You've seen Dark Star of course? Carpenter's first ever movie? It's not a horror but it is ****ing hilarious, basically hippies in space but, kind of, taken seriously. Not really.
Oh, and it has talking planet-buster bombs.
And an alien who looks like a beachball.

The Batlord 10-21-2017 10:47 AM

I've only seen Event Horizon once as a kid and I think it was a censored version on TV so I'm actually planning on rewatching it tonight.

Trollheart 10-21-2017 12:01 PM

Definitely hit up Dark Star though. Preferably (presumably) while high. If you don't enjoy it I'd be as surprised as you dissing Kesha.

The Batlord 10-21-2017 12:13 PM

Don't ever use "diss" again.

Shame that you haven't seen Event Horizon uncensored. Get on that. I saw Life with Jake Gyllenhaal that might be right up your alley.

Cop Land

Used to be one of my favorite movies back in the 90's, but I hadn't seen it in ages until this evening. Turns out it's still very good.

Stallone turns in an unusually restrain performance as a sort of quiet outsider who just minds his own business and seems quite naive about what's going on around him.

Seen both actually. Event Horizon last night, and it was pretty dull. Bad/indifferent/both acting, cringey set designs, and Paul W.S. Anderson clearly has no idea how to make actual horror movies. It was so-bad-it's-good enough times that it didn't feel like a complete waste of my time, but for the most part it was just meh. I did almost bust a gut at the sound effects in that last fight scene. It shouldn't go "BOING!" when you hit someone with a metal pipe.

Life was pretty nice as a sci-fi movie, but just decent as horror.

Trollheart 10-22-2017 05:18 PM

Watch. Dark. ****ing. Star.

The Batlord 10-22-2017 05:19 PM

The darkest one is where Mike Judge decided to become an accountant.

although as far as Mike Judge goes i would way rather watch like, every episode of King of the Hill. silicon valley is up there too.

Great poster. Too bad about the film, though.

JCVD

That odd Jean Claude Van Damme movie that's both a sort of action comedy and a meta-movie about Van Damme as a star and a person.

It was interesting from time to time, but really didn't work all that well. I felt bored more often than not.

Thelonious Monkey 10-25-2017 07:21 PM

Went to see Thor: Ragnarok with a friend. Was pretty good.

The Batlord 10-25-2017 08:18 PM

Okay, I haven't watched it yet, but the Nostalgia Critic was doing a review of The Mummy with Brendan Frasier from 1999, and he was ****ting on it as he does, so I decided to download it cause it's awesome and **** the Nostalgia Critic, and so it finished downloading and I went to go watch it while opening my File Explorer and I said all to myself, "Show me The Mummy!". It was not at all a put on and it's stupid as **** and not worth sharing with anyone but I don't give a ****. Someone should know I said that awesome ****.

Why is that still making me laugh? It's not even funny. But it is but isn't even a little bit.

OMFG I can't stop laughing and I'm kind of about to **** myself literally. **** me I'm so lame.
