Heat.
Wild that this is already 22 years old. What a great cast and everyone puts in solid performances - especially the two leads, acting together for the first time. Still holds up and has some of the best action sequences ever filmed sans CGI. Cool that Michael Mann gave Tom Noonan a cameo. Noonan was the original Red Dragon in Mann's 1986 movie Manhunter. (check it out if you've never seen it - solid and maybe better than the remake) The diner scene with Pacino and DeNiro is so classic. Love that Mann filmed it live using multiple cameras instead of resorting to the old "film all lines by one actor, and then all lines from the other, and then cut and paste them together to simulate a conversation". DeNiro has said that they did 5 or 6 takes and then mutually chose the best one. The majority of the scene is dead serious, but towards the end both guys give each other a tiny smile, acknowledging the mutual respect between them. http://theplaylist.net/wp-content/up...t-1200x520.jpg |

Yeah, I see scary as in Nineteen-Eighty-Four-I-Wouldn't-Want-To-Live-In-That-World, but I thought he meant as in it actually scared him like jump behind the sofa scary. |

Heat is one of my top movies as well. I've watched it an unhealthy number of times. That bank scene is the best action scene I can think of in any movie. Especially because it feels so real. |

I completely forgot about Free Fire. I saw the trailer and wanted to see it. It ended up only being limited release. Went on to make about 1.6 million in the box office but it is so good.
I love films that can take place in just one room. As they entered the warehouse it reminded me of Reservoir Dogs a bit. Brie Larson did an excellent job but I would have liked to see how Olivia Wilde would have played the same role. She was cast to be in it at first but had to drop out over conflicting schedules. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. |

To Sir With Love
For the first time in at least 25 years. Sydney Poitier was such a force in his prime. In 1967 alone he made this along with In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? All 3 classics. |

I finally saw Ghost in the Shell.
I've been a fan of the original anime and movies (especially the 2nd season of stand alone complex <3) for years, so my expectations were pretty high. At the same time I read the reviews and they were.. let's say, mixed. I'm also not one of those purists that will throw a fit when a remake of a fictional story gets changed a bit, so.. it wasn't bad. In fact, it was very pretty and somewhat fun, if absolutely predictable. The plot was a mix of several plots from the anime. Action scenes were decent. Actors.. were good! I was a bit sad to see so little of the team, but then I guess that's only fair as it was similar in the first Gits movie.. I didn't mind Scarlett as major. In a world where everyone and their mother has an artificial body/bodypart/brain/whatever, ethnicity is not that relevant.. I think. I really liked the fact that she wasn't too sexual - this is something that always bothered me in the anime... like the creators wanted to appeal to both serious s-f techno thriller fans, and otakus that drool seeing major swinging her boobs.. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of boobs in general, but there's a time and place for everything. I also liked the guy that played Batou, and I was shocked he's also Euron Greyjoy on GoT .. good acting. Generally I felt like I've seen it before. Like watching a good movie, but for the 2nd or 3rd time. Not exciting enough to be what you'd like it to be.. Anyway, I wonder whether some extended cut version is planned ? From what I read on imdb, they cut quite a few scenes, including an insightful conversation with a techno monk of some kind played by ..Tricky. I'd see the movie again if it had at least a handful of those extra scenes. |

And the Major was a top 10 fine anime biotch, so I have no issues with that. |

:p: edit: I mean, that don't SPOILER nothin'. In other words, it's completely useless as a spoiler. If anything, the eye is drawn TOWARDS bold text rather than away from it. Of course you already know all this. |

Yeah, problem is twofold: 1) by the time your brain has registered what the bold says, your eyes have moved on and have already read the text beyond it and 2) there's a ****ing spoiler icon you can use, dimwit. :) |

I Saw the Devil
Aside from being one of the most twisted, evil, and sick flicks I've ever seen, it's also technically brilliant. Especially the cinematography. Hannibal Lector John Doe from SE7EN And this guy: http://68.media.tumblr.com/bea4ceb6f...MmQ1qz4rgp.jpg |

Anyway, like I say, there are spoiler tags there for a reason. And I repeat, dumbass. :) |
