I guess I need more anime and this totally spaghettified my mind

The Terminal from 2004 is a pretty fun film with a really unique plot. Really sweet and pretty hilarious at times too.

What I liked best is that they're non-rock-star rock stars. They're just normal guys: two close friends, the other a shy bookish man.

And when Peart lost his wife and daughter, Lee and Lifeson just tastefully stepped back and gave him space, but they were always there ready for Peart if he needed them.

Also liked where Peart, already considered one of the best rock drummers on the planet, goes back and learns how play traditional jazz just to satisfy his need to keep growing. Did you see the extra where the 3 of them go out to dinner? If not here it is. Man, can these guys crack each other up. Especially Lifeson.

Zhanteimi 08-12-2017 09:08 PM

Thanks for this! It wasn't in the film I watched. So fun!

Gotta see that rush movie, seems cool.

Katsuhiro Otomo was a genius. You HAVE to watch Paprika if you haven't already.

Don't worry, the movie is a drug.

Braindead (or Dead Alive if your country is retarded and fat)

It had been awhile since I last watched this, and I ended up showing the lawnmower scene to someone on Friday which intrigued them enough to want to watch the movie. In the time since I last saw it, my opinion on it has definitely worsened. I should preface this and say that I don't think it is a bad movie, and it is certainly still entertaining, but as I've learned more about the art of film making and story crafting, this movie is kind of a mess. The zombie baby in the park scene is probably the most egregious from a story perspective and only exists to see the set piece play out.

The lazy kind.

Braindead is the archetype for film

Trollheart 08-13-2017 07:32 PM

Watched this last night.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buried_(film)

Hard to imagine how you could stretch the simple premise of a guy being buried in a coffin over a whole film and still make it engaging, but like Colin Farrell - or rather, to be fair, Kiefer Sutherland - in Phone Booth, it really works and Ryan Reynolds does a great job. Expected ending, though with a very clever twist or two. Recommended, unless you suffer from claustrophobia!

Frownland 08-13-2017 07:56 PM

Great film that does so much with so little. I am a bit worried that it will age poorly on a further viewings though.

The Batlord 08-13-2017 08:04 PM

So if I wanted to look up war movies with that 1700s, march in formation and unload with mass musket volleys kind of battles from the Revolutionary War and Napoleon and ****, what the hell do I even look up?

Ya, that movie was so much better than I'd imagined. Reynolds developed into a really good actor during his career.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
Heartbreaking ending though. Gut wrenching.

Mondo Bungle 08-14-2017 06:09 PM

Obv you don't have to be stoned to watch a movie but with Paprika (among others) I'm glad I was

Any thoughts on Paprika? It's one of my favorite movies, but I don't know if anyone else in here would like it as much.

Mondo Bungle 08-14-2017 06:20 PM

Why not, it basically removed the brain from my skull and dipped it in a vat of liquified dreams and let it dry for a moment while it all sunk in and left the organ with a very light and phosphorescent glaze before returning it to my skull with the new ability to freely and smoothly twirl around releasing the dreams throughout my entire nervous system

MicShazam 08-14-2017 06:29 PM

You could be the new Roger Ebert.

You should go watch Serial Experminents Lain. It's not a movie but I'm pretty sure it'll drain the sanity from your brain and use it for finger painting.

Mondo Bungle 08-14-2017 06:36 PM

I like it already

Neat. Then Frownie should watch it too. He already likes Evangelion.

If he likes it then it's gay

Mondo Bungle 08-14-2017 08:59 PM

Using gay as an insult in 2017...

Do you not realize all the depressed kids out there that are struggling to come to terms with themselves (and how they are subsequently treated / portrayed)?

Mondo Bungle 08-14-2017 09:50 PM

chances are they're cooler than me

Seems to me you're pretty fucking gay.

I'd agree with this. Because there is basically nothing else to concentrate on - literally: no change of scene, no other characters who are not voices or, in one case, a brief face on a tiny phone screen on a video - there's nothing I think to reward subsequent viewings. Still, for what it was, I thought it was pretty great. But yeah, definitely not something you would watch twice.

You could try docus and dramas on Napoleon. I watched a few: think one is called Napoleon and Josephine. There's also The Charge of the Light Brigade, and surely other, older type movies.

Absolutely. Two great twists near the end. Heart rending, and yet, in its way, totally satisfying. Glad the writer/director didn't cop out at the end.

Ever seen the original Dutch film "The Vanishing"? That also didn't cop out like the American remake did.
